The Obamas display more of their elitist "Do as I say, not as I do" attitude. This is why Socialism will never work in a nation as large as ours - those in power in Socialist systems seem to routinely think of themselves as more worthy than the rest, even to extremes.

I cant blame her for that. Im sure Id put on weight if I had the White House chef at my beck and call too.

Heavy Conservatives dont bother me either, weight shouldnt be an issue.

The ridiculous rant about "socialism" aside, I agree with you 100%. I've been bitching about this on another board for days. I'm constantly amazed at how arrogant and out-of-touch this man is. I don't know what the fuck these people are thinking, that they didn't see what an incredibly bad idea this was.

"The White House says that as a policy, official trips by the first family are paid by the government but all personal elements paid are personally. Since this is a private trip, the White House seems to be suggesting that the Obamas are personally paying all costs associated with the vacation."

Yeah thats so elite., so extravagant.
While the cost of the security and other cost are very high...the over extravagance of  drama whoring is becoming a fine art.

If you read the provided links youll learn that theyre constantly taking some luxurious vacation or throwing fabulous extravagant parties. It isnt a one time thing, its their lifestyle.

First families' vacations and lifestyles have been causing someone somewhere to take umbrage for eons, and it all strikes me as silly. Martin Van Buren's supposedly extravagant lifestyle was a key target for the partisans of (supposedly) hard-cider-drinking William Henry Harrison. More recently, I astonished my friends when I supported the Quayles' desire for a pool at the VP's residence. Knowing what it's like to live through a Washington summer, I couldn't begrudge them the chance to swim, or the Obamas their chance to get away.
