Toppingfrmbottom -> I messed up my yahoo email settings can you help me fix it please? (8/9/2010 12:04:28 PM)

In your inbox, there's a button that looks like an i, then a button that says "from", then one that says "subject" and then it says "date".

The "i" can sort it from un read first, or read first, and that's ok, but it's the oldest first, and the newest last, and I want newest un read first,

Can any one help me put it back to the way it was by default?

Is there something wrong with Yahoo support? Have you asked them yet?

Support people like yahoo's rarely get back to you. It's faster to ask collarme, and why not, perhaps by me asking an it being told on here, I'll save someone else from having to contact yahoo also.

PA, I have done that 5 times, that's how I know what the i and the from and the subject and the date buttons do so well lol. I guess I could just take the time  when I am not doing anything and delete all the old out dated emails, and then that'll fix your problem, because then only new current un read emails will be left.

Interesting. I've had no issues with Yahoo support responding within a couple of hours. Anyway...

Have you tried first sorting by date then by unread status? Many times the second sort will sort within the results of the first sort operation. If that doesn't work, try sorting by unread status first then date second.

Other than that, there's no hidden option, that I can see, that allows one to sort within another sort result. Short of using a separate mail client, you may be limited to the way Yahoo has programmed the site to limit how browsers can sort.

I've clicked them all lol. First I tried date, and then I clicked the "i" thinking that would sort them by date and that  the unread newest emails would be on top  and nope.  I don't mind yahoo's default,  which is new mail first over old mail, even if the old mail has not been read yet, so I shouldn't of played with it.

I'm trying to understand what it is you want to do...if you want all of your unread e-mails on top, simply click on the date heading in your inbox...this will sort them by date, either ascending (up) or descending (down) order.  Just click on it til you get it in the order you want them in.  You can only click on one column heading to sort by, you can't sort using two column headings. It's that simple......also, you can try the yahoo help areas.....it's pretty easy to understand what the steps are to fix things.

The "DATE" column has a little arrow head, if it's pointing down, your newest e-mails will show up on top, whether they are read or not.  If it's pinting up, then the newest e-mails will be at the bottom of the column.  You want the arrow head to point DOWN.

That won't sort by unread.  I sort by date but have a lot of unread mixed with read, farther down the page.

A 2-column (Excel style) sort would be great:  unread+(by date)

as far as I know, there isn't any way to sort read from unread.  At least I can't find any way to do it in the help files for yahoo mail.  I sort by date, and all my unread comes in on top, since I check my e-mail throughout the day.  But I'm not the most computer literate person either....I usually have to look around for a piece before I hit on the right solution.  But for what tfb is talking about, this would work for her.

And I've always gotten responses from Yahoo, depending on what I've done, it's anywhere from a couple of hours to 24.  They even respond when you report a poster on their news sites.

sign into your yahoo email.
click on options - it's on the right side
click on mail options
Under message ordering, make sure default is selected. If you made changes, be sure to save the changes.
Go back to your inbox and click on unread - it's in the main frame, near the top middle.

Good luck!

Not a problem, tfb.....I'm forever asking our computer geeks at work when I get stuck....it's like a free Geek Squad!
