No kidding, some kids got salmonella from dried dog food.

"Dozens of salmonella infections in toddlers have been traced to dry pet food, the first time human infections have been linked to dry dog and cat food, health officials say. The infections occurred from January 2006 through October 2008 in 21 states. More than 23,000 tons of pet food were recalled, affecting 105 brands, and the manufacturing plant, in western Pennsylvania, was shut in 2008.

The link between salmonella and dry pet food was described by health officials from several states and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in a paper published Monday on the Web site of the journal Pediatrics. Officials referred to the factory only as “Plant X.” Altogether, 79 people were infected, including 32 children age 2 or younger."

I wish we would stop making garbage to feed to people and animals.

Agreed. Which is why I don't feed dry pet food to my dogs.

I remember a few crazy, Margarita Night On the Farm, events where people were sampling various pet food/treat products.

My son's swim team in high school used to eat Milk Bones at swim meets. I do not have a clue WHY! He said they tasted pretty bland.

LOL LaT;

My Dad loved to tell the story about one night when he and my Mom were first married and threw a party. They ran out of crackers for the dip, so Dad broke up MilkBones into pieces and served them as a replacement. Since everyone was snookered, they ate every damn one. As Dad sat back and silently laughed his butt off.

I look at it this way, if a food stuff is unfit for human consumption, then there is no way in hell I am going to feed it to my cat, as the cat knows when food is not the best it should be eating, and will just walk away leaving me to ditch the stuff and find something else for the cat to eat.

I feed my moggy tuna fish, not the best tuna, not tuna I would eat, but at least the cat food is fit for human consumption, and I could eat it if I really needed to, but I will not feed my friend crap.

But dog food I have eaten, Pedigree chum I think it was, it was the sneaky meat in many a stew that has been made.
