I'm sure we've all been exposed to the stage Domme who barks out her orders in a commanding tone whilst striking a naked man with her whip. "Now pathetic slave, down on your knees and lick the mud off my boots because that's all you deserve anyway!" I don't do this. I don't think I could do this if I tried. If I did try, I can easily envision me cracking up laughing. Even when I'm doing humiliation, my tone is not brassy and brazen. I would definitely call it more condescending, sarcastic, and softly patronizing. "awww, ain't that cute how you think you're man enough to put oil in your car." During play time, caning, flogging, etc... I'm more quiet, but when I do speak, it's usually a whisper in the ear, or again, it's a laughing/teasing kind of talk "oooOOOoooo that one made you jump. hold still now, this one won't hurt a bit." And I definitely don't use that insolent tone on a daily basis, around the house in interacting with my subs/slaves. I don't see other Dommes (or even male Doms for that matter), using that type of inflection at play parties or munches or BDSM events. For the most part, I see Dominants using a caring, loving tone. One that shows strength and power, but never raises a single octave. And insults are generally rendered with a teasing wink or smile. I tend to equate that brash, insolent tone, barking out insults, with all the other cheesy Dominatrix stereotypes (6 foot, model figure, catsuit, etc..) Hell, even the women in the few videos I've watched seemed like their voice was shaking when they barked out insults to the men. Do any of you ladies use that brass vocal technique? Or is it truly just another stereotype?

I must agree with you, the barking out orders is a thing that those that have no idea do because they think its right. I do believe that is not only the Fake Domme's fault... but the submissive that willingly ALLOWS this type of crap to go on. A good submissive knows that a Dominant doesnt need to scream orders... and doesnt need to treat anybody like shit. Also who in the hell lets some "pathetic slave" serve her? I know the least thing on my list is pathetic slaves that think they are lower than dirt. I expect to have a brave and honorable slave that I can treat with love and care.

I am not like that myself either proprietrix, but I never really thought of those that are as fakes although I can see your point, I just think of that tone being more something of a scene tone, say a prison scene, or a wealthy housewife scene. If I were to use that sort of tone it would be becuase it is a character my submissive fantasizes about, and then seeing him get all squirmy and aroused I would probably dig it too...

I don't usually bark , although it would go with the B*tch personna. [;)] And I have to admit that one time I called for my submissive and he responded, " You bellowed, Oh Queen?" But on a normal basis, I tend to use a quiet voice. If fact, there are times when the quieter the voice is, the more trouble someone is about to be in. As it has been stated before, there are no worthless scum serving me, nor would I want any. Even if the scene calls for it, I have a problem calling someone worthless.

He said it was hot for about one second until he realized it was me talking to him. Normally I talk in either a "cute" voice or my everyday voice. When I'm pissed my voice does get deeper and I do do yell though usually not at him (cause he doesn't piss me off).

I have a soft, sweet, little girl's voice normally (it's a curse), but during times of humiliation, or to express anger or irritation, or just during more 'extreme' times, I get an edge to My voice... a strict, firmness that I would describe as wicked. I am not the drill sargeant type... but My tone does change, and it just happens naturally, so I go with it. I like it actually, but if I tried to fake it (like something else many have tried to 'fake' at one time another), it wouldn't do a thing for Me.

Barking out orders is not my idea of a good time for myself, much less for someone else. I prefer to conduct myself as a lady, albeit one who is in control. I know there are submissives out there who enjoy otherwise, however they are not ones I would seek out. Lady Ursa

Hello. New at posting here. lol..I don't like to think of myself as stereotypical. I sure don't look like the 6', model figure, catsuit wearing domme[;)] I do tend to raise my voice, yell insults etc while playing though .It goes along with the face slapping, spitting, and all the other fun stuff. It raises the fear level for me. I like to play rough. I have a good match in a partner that needs that humilation . So it does work for us. Far from it. I would never do this to someone that I actually thought was worthless. It is about something different, taking them to a place of real fear, and for that, yes, yelling is a useful tool and it comes out naturally for me. While barking doesn't do much for Me... pulling his hair or collar and hissing remarks or orders into his ear has always been fun. And I do like the word 'pathetic', be it stereotypical Domme material or not.

The majority of the time I use a normal voice. A lowered voice can either be a hiss of displeasure or a murmur of intimacy. It is fun to yell and curse a slave in particular scenes, especially when then have a ball gag stuffed in their mouth and sweat standing on the brow. [:D] Regards, -Vendaval-

I don't bark orders but I do use a commanding voice. Those Dommes in the flicks are just acting out some dudes fantasy. I watch about 5 mins and turn it off. Now I'm sure some Dommes act like that, but I don't know of one personally. I do use verbal humilation with my sub, like if I'm spanking him I'll say something like "Now I want you to count how many times I hit your ass. Do you think you can count for me? Can you count without using your fingers and toes?"[;)] I'd never call him worthless scum because he isn't and I would never involve myself with worthless scum. ~Lashra

I've always found that for taunting purposes (like when they're on the brink and you won't let them come), my subs have responded best to a voice that's low, purring, and edged. The bark has never come into it. I've never actually been sub to a Domme, but given that a Dom has tried it on me and turned me off completely (and other subs have said the same to me), I would think that it takes a specific type of sub to enjoy that. It seems that it's a stereotype, annd exaggerated at that.

I have a deep and somewhat authoritative voice when speaking in normal tones, a deep, throaty, sexy voice when lowered, and a very strong, forceful and commanding voice when raised. It's something that I have to be conscious of at all times because people that don't know me can be offended by my seeming sternness, and even people that know me can be shocked at times at my tone of voice. I don't ever bark orders, I have no need to, saying them in a normal tone of voice gets the point across quite well for me. As far as worthless scum...why would I want them doing anything at all for me?
