and that we nearly lost that high stakes economic game of chicken to see who could outspend the other

Except it was a game that could not be lost, since the opponents were socialists. Your "nearly" is total bullshit.

The opponents were a totalitarian regime, they were not "socialists"...geesh

And totalitarians cant be socialists? Please stop embarassing yourself.

juliaoceania -> RE: Olbermann Special Comment: The Professional Left?? (8/12/2010 1:18:06 PM)

He wouldn't know a Leninist from a Trotskyite if they both jumped up and bit him on the ass. Forget trying to educate him on Maoist Communism....

And which type of socialism is he referring to? Is it democratic socialism, socialist anarchism, pure socialism?

The thing about the Cold War Era is that they kept our people ignorant of different movements based on Marxism for a reason, they didn't want us to learn about them. It is why it was hard to teach anything with the word "Marx" in it during the Cold War, although many academics would introduce it under other names to their students... it was an era of ignorance that bred stupidity in our people. Other countries laugh at our simplistic knowledge of World Political History, and our Amero-centric vision of the universe.. pretty pathetic actually...

Wilbur is a product of this era.

Seriously, you deride Obama for being guilty of the same things as every modern president, backing at least some "socialistic" programs. Name one president that did not back some form of "socialism"... George Bush gave everyone a check for a few hundred bucks on a couple of occasions... and some of those checks were sent to people that paid NO TAXES....

You embarrass yourself by deriding one president for doing the same things as every other before him since the dawn of tghe 20th century

For Christ's sake, the Nixon plan for socialized medicine far exceeded any Obama plan for its "socialistic" dimensions... please, buy a clue somewhere

Wow, this is one divided, messed up country. The disagreements get louder and louder every day. The left is angry that their president isn't 'left' enough. The right is angry because the potus is too left. Fact is shouted down as fiction and fiction is portrayed as fact. Everybody talks in half-truths simply to further their own agenda. Character assasination is the chosen rebuttal in most arguments and petty bickering is the entertainment of the times.
Seems our nation is going down a nearly un-recoverable path to destruction. Fortunately it will be years after I'm gone that that will take place but it is a sad commentary none-the-less.

United we will stand, divided we will surely fall, to paraphrase a quote.

Lech Walesa and JP 2 had much more to do with that wall coming down than ourselves and all the other Presidents combined. The Cold War was invented by both sides to allow unfettered military spending.

Thrown in the Hunk pile. the historical illiteracy on this board is truly mindboggling.

Whatever gramps. go on back down to the bomb shelter....

This is to remind him of how to get to the shelter

The indians used to run buffalo over cliffs in mighty stampedes... Being united could mean we all run off the cliff.

Our democracy is most healthy when we debate and we disagree with each. Sorry you don't like it, but it is what Americans have always done

Mustanger -> RE: Olbermann Special Comment: The Professional Left?? (8/12/2010 1:57:35 PM)

This is not debate although it is disagreement. No one is changing anyone's minds or accepting anything other than what they themselves believe as truth. All I see is one party continually talking louder than the other, and the rebuttal is louder still. It's like speaking in a louder voice to someone who does not understand your language, like that will help them understand.

"Our democracy is most healthy when we debate and we disagree...." You have mis-interpreted my post because I completely agree with this statement.

"Sorry you don't like it,..." makes an assumption not in evidence.

DomYngBlk -> RE: Olbermann Special Comment: The Professional Left?? (8/12/2010 1:58:30 PM)

Those that get upset over debate I toss into the same heap as "Independents". Grab a pair and get an idea and stick with it. Waiting till the polls show who is popular before you decide is certain disaster.

I am not a democrat. I am not a republican. I am actually a registered Green, so your assumption that I am arguing party politics isn't rooted in reality. I WISH Obama was a socialist, but he damn well isn't one anymore than GW was.

I am not here to change the mind of those who I am "debating" with, I am here mostly to relieve my boredom. I will say though, if people go around stating that someone is an evil socialist, and they do not even know what a socialist is, they deserve to be called on that..

Greenies are just Democrats ashamed to admit it.

At the rate we are going, you may be around to see more than what you think.
I agree that now is not the time for petty partisian bullshit bickering.

Great post and welcome!
