Status: offline 		This last sunday on Meet the Press, David Gregory was putting Boehner on the spot. Seriously, is this what the GOP truely has to offer?

Status: offline 		For year and years Greenspan was wrong on everything except keeping inflation low. Now he has finally seen the light and the GOP, who used to love him, refuse to learn the lesson that he finally learned.

Where does David Gregory get the insane idea that tax cuts need to be "paid for"?

Tax cuts arent purchases, theyre not debt, tax cuts involve allowing people to keep more of their own money. Its not the governments money, never was. Gregory acts like he thinks everything belongs to the government and the government is being generous if it allows us to keep what we earn.

Thats totally backward thinking on Gregorys part but then, like most mainstream media figures, he is a leftist and leftists think like that. Everything doesnt belong to the government.

What an ass.

You dont "pay for" tax cuts, what you do is cut spending.

He was playing a game of "gotcha" trying to trap Boehner into the Laffer curve strawman. Boehner didnt fall for it.

Sometimes tax cuts SHOULD be paid for. This is one of those times. Increasing the deficit is clearly the wrong direction. But tax cuts coupled with spending cuts (not dollar for dollar necessarily) that both stimulate the economy and reduce the drag of government spending are exactly what we need.

You've lost me.  Spending cuts are necessary - I agree with you there.  But cutting spending will not stimulate the economy.  I assume that you mean that diverting money from the government into the private sector (via tax cuts/lower taxes) will stimulate the economy, and that cutting spending at the same time will prevent the deficit from rising.  Is that it?

Personally, I don't like the idea of the government being responsible for stimulating the economy through its actions.

Former Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan said that the push by congressional Republicans to extend the Bush tax cuts without offsetting the costs elsewhere could end up being "disastrous" for the economy.

In an interview on NBC's "Meet the Press," Greenspan expressed his disagreement with the conservative argument that tax cuts essentially pay for themselves by generating revenue and productivity among recipients.

"They do not," said Greenspan.

"I'm very much in favor of tax cuts but not with borrowed money and the problem that we have gotten into in recent years is spending programs with borrowed money, tax cuts with borrowed money," he said. "And at the end of the day that proves disastrous. My view is I don't think we can play subtle policy here."

Greenspan also weighed in on broader economic issues and trends -- he expects the nation's unemployment rate to remain at its current level, mainly because there were few tools left to change it.

"I see it [as] we just stay where we are," he said. "There is a gradual increase in employment but not enough to reduce the level of unemployment ...There is nothing out there that I can see which will alter the trend or the level of unemployment in this country

The reality is that extending the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy will cost $830 billion over the next ten years and the Republicans — who have made bringing down the deficit one of their signature issues — have no idea how they will pay for them.

Whippy? The last thing we need in this economy is to have taxes raised on the middle class.

What is your take on eliminating the bush tax cuts?

How much money did you save with the Bush tax cuts? What did you do with all your extra cash?

Or did you not notice the difference, and spend it all on soaring state taxes as they struggled to pay for programs?

I used it to buy a larger house. It made a very big difference, and saw no increase in state taxes either here or in NJ since they were implemented.

You could also ask, not only did you do with the money you saved from the Bush tax cuts, but how are you going to make it with LESS money, if/when taxes are raised?

Or did you not notice the difference, and spend it all on soaring state taxes as they struggled to pay for programs?

Of course I spent it on the ever increasing nickle, and dime state taxes, and rising real estate property taxes!
