Former VP's son dubs Obama "worst president in history"In a new campaign ad, an Arizona congressional candidate accuses President Barack Obama of being “the worst president in history.”

He might know a thing or two about how men in the White House are judged by the public; he’s the son of a vice president perhaps best known for enduring ridicule after he flubbed the spelling of the word “potato.”

Ben Quayle, the son of George H.W. Bush’s running mate, is one of 10 candidates in the GOP primary race in Arizona’s conservative 3rddistrict (It went for McCain by 15 points in 2008 and for Bush by almost 20 in 2004.) In a new ad, he says that “Barack Obama is the worst president in history” and promises to “knock the hell” out of Washington if elected.

Quayle, 33, is well-funded in the race – thanks in part to donations from Republicans who worked in father's administration – but his campaign has been pockmarked by controversy.

On Tuesday, he admitted that he had contributed to nightlife website DirtyScotsdale.com just hours after he denied to a POLITICO reporter that he had used a pseudonym to post sex-themed comments on the site.

An opponent also recently took him to task for “renting a family” when a mailer underscoring his family values pictured him with two children. Quayle and his wife don’t have children; the pink-clad young girls turned out to be his nieces.

It's America. It's like asking, "aren't a large number of them English speakers?"

We're willing to share. Or I am, at any rate. Let me know how many you'd like, and I'll box 'em up. I'll keep the packages small so you won't strain your back.

I hold the dubious distinction of having graduated college (undergraduate, my MBA was from elsewhere) at the same school that the elder Quayle graduated. No, I won't name names. He and Mark Rolfing (NBC Sports golf sportscaster) played on the same golf team.

When I was a senior, I was the News director at the radio station. I forget the exact circumstances, but I nearly had an opportunity to meet the man (for an interview). The faculty at the school voted against having Dan Quayle speak at my graduation.

Instead, we had some artist/writer from the funny pages. You might have heard of him. Gary Trudeau. (Might have had something to do with the fact that his wife Jane Pauley also graduated from the same University.)

The more candidates in the race, the better Quayle's chances. He's got name recognition and money.  Nothing else, though...

You join that distinction with a number of other people, famous and not. And...moi. <grins> Were you at the campus radio station or the NPR one? Do you remember WQAX? I was assistant GM there for a couple of years but that was before you were there. Evan Bayah, former Governor and Senator lived on the floor below me in Teter the last year I lived in the dorms. I met him at a party down there with a lot of drinking and pot going around. I do not know if he imbibed or not. <grins> Jane Pauley and I overlapped slightly if I recall correctly but I can not remember if I ever shared a class with her or not.

Did you ever get to meet or interview Herman B? That was one seriously interesting and good man.

Be well....

Like his father he comes across as an empty suit.  That he has a chance says way more about the people of the district he hopes to represent then it does  him.

Cheers Malkinius,

I was there from '79 to '83. I was a DU, the 2nd year after they tossed everyone out of the fraternity and started rebuilding. I come by my 'loner' status honestly, as that was some quirky bunch of guys, but nice.

I was at the campus radio station, WGRE. I was a DJ all four years (and News Director there at the end - getting paid!). I still project like one. I didn't pay attention to other radio stations, sorry. I was too obsessed with my record collection (where are THEY now, I wonder?).

Now Herman B is not a name I'm familiar with. Of course, getting on in years like we are .....

Jeff

We overlapped in town but I was out of school by then just living and working in town. There were several fraternities who were kicked off of campus over the years. More than I remember at this point. My fraternity (APO) is still there, but since it never had (was allowed) to have a house, it didn't have the problems that others did. Getting paid is rare at the campus station. Congrats on that. QAX was a cable radio station based in the union that eventually became a low power station called Firehouse Radio because the studio was in the old fire station downtown.

You don't remember Herman B Wells? How could you? There is even a statue of him sitting on a bench in the old part of campus. There is no one more of an institution at that school than he was.

I know where my old album collection is. Gather dust and possibly mold and untouched for years in storage. <grins> I wonder how many others on here also went to the same school which we have very carefully not named?

Be well...

Malkinius
