I believe that the first munch was held in 1992 at a burger joint in Palo Alto, CA. It was called a "burgermunch" which eventually got shortened to munch.

It stands for Many Uneducated Newbies Seeking Help. Unfortunately, the folks at the first one couldn't spell very well, they thought "seeking" started with a C. It all worked out, though, because they usually eat at these gatherings and it kinda made cents. [8\|]

Shortened from the term 'meeting lunch' it was originally used as a screening process to see if an individual was to be trusted enough not to be someone who would break up a play party or contact the authorities when there used to be laws against gay folks gathering. Now, it's just used to point out people who are too illiterate to pick up a book.

The word munch originated with a dozen furries who liked to dress up as munchkins, which is a breed of short-legged cats. It is speculated that they were all lesbians, dykes or bois.
