This subject has been debated over and over and over again... i cannot believe it STILL generates so much heat!


Here is the thing... I think it is petty to attack someone's posts on the basis of the fact they cannot spell. Message boards, by their very nature seem to self select for literate people who can communicate a thought or two in writing. This does not mean that people who do not spell well, have learning disabilities, cannot value from forums and message boards... they can.


I am lazy sometimes, this, in my opinion, is not some sort of Shakespearean play I am writing here. I misspell, I leave out words sometimes. I don't care if people judge me for it. I have enough validation in the real 3D world that I do not need it here when it comes to how I write.

I find that if someone does not communicate very well I automatically skip their posts. There are several people who post on this board that may spell well, and have a grasp of the English language, but they have very little clue of how to write in an interesting manner. They go on and on and on with pages of text. I am sure these are the sorts of people who take the long way around when they tell a story in the real world... boring their listeners out of their minds. I find these posts more annoying than people who have issues with spelling. It seems as though it is the same people who communicate with long winded missives that have a lot of trouble with someone who misspells a lot. I find this rather amusing, just because you know how to spell words does not mean you should string so many together constantly....

On the other hand, the people who get ridiculed the most for their spelling are usually clueless douchebags anyways, so it is hard to feel sorry for them. There are plenty of people here that spell poorly that never get attacked.

Difference is that I'm NOT telling you that you can't. We make choices all the time about what factors lead us to treat people in certain ways. I can't control yours, and you can't control mine.

I'm just not that invested in treating someone like this OP like Mother Theresa when they have spent years being an annoying clown here. They are just symbols on a computer screen and 2 minutes later they are responded to, or not, and done. This is the most time I've ever spent talking about said responses. Although the whole spelling/treatment of assholes debate does seem to occur with monotonous regularity.

And FWIW, your example of 'told about their issues' could seem exactly like mocking in someone else's eyes.

Just for the record..I don't believe I've said you can't do anything..I just said it's petty..Which it is.

I think you'll find that it IS the majority opinion, whether people claim it to be or not, or get involved.

Casual observation would support this.
 
As I've said before on the merry go round every time this is raised, it is very very rare that someone gets trounced without first being said douchebag.
 
Like all things, if you think it goes over the top or violates TOS, report it.
