Per the link posted on the $500 million from taxpayers:

"Alaska could have to bail out TransCanada to the tune of $400 million to $2 billion. And when I say Alaska, I mean America. And by America, I mean the American taxpayer. "

Whoever wrote that article is an absolute imbecile who knows nothing of the history of the natural gas pipeline idea, which was certainly not thought up by Sarah Palin, and who equally knows nothing about the history of Alaska.

There is nothing about anything being a burden on Alaska that has ever meant a burden to the American taxpayer. Even all that b.s. about it being a welfare State and being a burden on America, as people are prone to say, completely ignores the fact that Alaska actually pays for the "federal" payments to its citizens, as well as has a fund set up for helping those with disabilities to get proper care and visit their families down states, etc. so it may or may not have more citizens (mostly Americans who are not Alaskan at all) on welfare per capita than other States, but, it is the ONLY STATE that is actually footing the majority, and sometimes absolutely ALL of that bill.

So, no, when you say Alaska, you should never mean America . Because the Federal government has never treated Alaska like it was a State of the United States of America. In the mid-1980's they even tried to pass a bill that would force everyone to relocate out of the State so that it could be declared the nuclear waste dumping ground for America. Which, by the way, it is in some parts, unofficially, and that's why the Natives are so pissed off!

Back to the Pipeline. First time I heard about it, it came as a suggestion from Americans, who were trying to force the Alaska Pipeline to get shut down and the natural gas pipeline to be started, instead. By their suggestion, it would be all American owned and yet Alaska would be entirely responsible for the maintenance of it, since it was their natural gas and predominantly their land that it would be passing over. There were to be no Federal funds, no deal with the Canadians. They basically wanted to use the Alaskan people as the slave labor of the American people, to supply you guys with the natural gas with very little cost and no effort on the part of Americans. So, anything that is mentioned in that article is several steps up from an entire country (that's what State means, look it up!) being enslaved to your lust for a good weekend barbecue!

And, guess what? I heard about it when I was around 9 years old. Sarah Palin may have thought of running for Ms. Alaska around that time, but, I don't think she'd even gotten that far in her political career.

I am not saying she is a wonderful person or a great politician. I'm saying to blame the deal on her, or on Alaska, when it so obviously started before her time and from within the Federal government, is absolutely ludicrous. And, to ever claim that a burden on Alaska has ever become a burden on the American taxpayer, when Alaskans are still not treated as American citizens in the majority of situations, is about as silly.

Good day!

PS: Here is a quote from Wikipedia regarding the history of the natural gas pipeline, in defense of my claim that it is not Sarah Palin's doing, the bolding is my own:

Large natural gas reserves were discovered in Prudhoe Bay in 1967. Talk of a pipeline peaked during the 1973 OPEC oil embargo and several companies came out in favor of large pipeline projects. Canadian Arctic Gas Pipeline, Ltd.—a consortium of large oil companies including Shell, Exxon, and TransCanada—proposed a route from Alaska's Prudhoe Bay across northern Yukon to the Mackenzie Delta, and then south through the Mackenzie Valley to Alberta. In addition, the Foothills Pipeline consortium pursued a competing Mackenzie Valley Pipeline, starting at the Mackenzie Delta and also running along the river valley to Alberta. Either proposal required the approval of the Canadian government, which named Thomas Berger to lead an inquiry into the proposals. Berger's inquiry resulted in a recommendation for a ten year moratorium on development of the pipeline to deal with issues such as Aboriginal land claims and setting aside of conservation areas.
In the United States, three competing applications were filed with the Federal Power Commission to construct a natural gas pipeline from Prudhoe Bay. A proposal sponsored by El Paso Corporation routed the pipeline to Valdez along the oil pipeline route with LNG tankers then transporting the gas to terminals on the west coast. The other two proposals would cross Canada on a route parallel to the Alaska Highway. The Federal Power Commission conducted lengthy hearings on the relative merits of the three plans, and under the Natural Gas Act[4] the Commission had the legal right to select the final route. Following the 1976 elections where John McMillian, CEO of Northwest Pipeline was a major supporter of Jimmy Carter, President Carter proposed special legislation to transfer the task of selecting a project from the Federal Power Commission to the President. Congress adopted the Alaska Natural Gas Transportation Act of 1977,[5] and Carter selected the project sponsored by Northwest to the exclusion of the other two projects. The Commission then proceeded to conduct further proceedings to issue certificates of public convenience and necessity to authorize construction of pipelines from Prudhoe Bay and extending to San Francisco and Chicago, and the United States and Canada entered into an agreement regarding having the gas pipeline follow the Alaskan Highway route.
Ultimately, Northwest's consortium could not finance the project, and instead decided to "prebuild" the segments from Alberta to San Francisco and Chicago. Northwest justified the prebuild on the theory that using Canadian gas to depreciate the pipeline for a period of years would make the transportation of Alaskan gas more economic at a later date. The prebuild system went into service under the names Pacific Gas Transmission and Northern Border Pipeline. Subsequently, an affiliate of TransCanada Pipeline acquired Pacific Gas Transmission and 50% of Northern Border. Northwest was acquired by the Williams Companies . As a result, Northwest was no longer willing to pursue the full project to Prudhoe Bay.

It ignores a lot of oppression, lies, etc., but, what doesn't? It does, however, make the point that this started long before Sarah Palin had any influence on anything, except, maybe her own potty training and training bra status.
