Jeffff -> Maxine Waters? (8/14/2010 8:00:20 AM)

In another thread there was a request for a thread about Maxine Waters.

This is from the SF Chronicle

In her most spirited defense against ethics charges, Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Los Angeles, on Friday refused to wait quietly for her trial, denying that she used her influence to aid a bank in which her husband has a financial interest.

She also attacked ethics investigators for drawing the wrong conclusions from what she said was her lifetime work of trying to aid minority-owned businesses in general.

"I won't cut a deal," Waters vowed in her first Capitol Hill news conference since charges were brought.

So... have at her!

Does she have flouride?

Jeffff -> RE: Maxine Waters? (8/14/2010 8:14:06 AM)

Yes, but not a............... wait for it........................

WHITENER!

RimSHOT!

servantforuse -> RE: Maxine Waters? (8/14/2010 8:16:26 AM)

She wanted 50 million in bailout money for OneUnited bank, a bank that her husband owns stock in. It is a clear ethics violation to steer stimulus money to her own family interests.

mnottertail -> RE: Maxine Waters? (8/14/2010 8:21:36 AM)

I do not see that 50mill quote.  Wow, how many banks had to take the stress test money?

I don't see this going anywhere.

pahunkboy -> RE: Maxine Waters? (8/14/2010 8:24:29 AM)

LMAO.

I told you the banks run the US.

HAHAHA.   and you thought we were free   ROFLMAO!

Jeffff -> RE: Maxine Waters? (8/14/2010 8:31:32 AM)

This is were it breaks down for me.

People through out numbers that have no basis in fact.

Then they get upset when you call them on it.

OneUnited -- a Boston-based bank that requested $50 million in federal aid and ultimately obtained more than $12 million in TARP funds -- would have likely failed without intervention from Waters' office, the report said.

Because Waters' stock would have been rendered worthless if OneUnited had failed, the violations "constitute compensation accruing to the beneficial interest of [Waters]," according to the committee.

According to House rules, "A member ... may not receive compensation and may not permit compensation to accrue to the beneficial interest of such individual from any source, the receipt of which would occur by virtue of influence improperly exerted from the position of such individual of Congress."

And Henry affirms this 50 mill request for OneUnited from the mouth of Maxie, does he?

I don't see that anywhere, so at best you have been duped at worst you are believing opeds from the rabid right as gospel at this point until the facts come out.

pahunkboy -> RE: Maxine Waters? (8/14/2010 9:27:45 AM)

Is it me or does 50 million sound like a low amount?

Jeffff -> RE: Maxine Waters? (8/14/2010 9:38:12 AM)

If I could get my hands on it, it would seem about right to me.

pahunkboy -> RE: Maxine Waters? (8/14/2010 9:55:38 AM)

you are worth every penny!

;-)

As we know Maxine Waters teamed up with Barney Frank in this case. Why we do not hear much about Frank?

Pretty standard corruption case though. People corrupt around big stolen money.
"According to the Boston Herald, Cohee's car collection (a Porsche, a Jaguar, and more) and his $6.4 million beachfront house had all been paid for by the bank. Possibly worse, though unrelated, is what allegedly happened inside the house. Inside the house paid for by the bank, police say, Cohee kept cocaine, illegal narcotics and opiates"

thornhappy -> RE: Maxine Waters? (8/14/2010 11:44:10 AM)

Kinda reminds me of the good ol' days of the first mortgage bond crisis back in the late '80s (written about by Michael Lewis in "Liar's Poker").  RTC, anyone?
