I believe the SS was under the "German Army" umbrella.

I never thought of them as a private organization.

The dems are sitting there refusing to do anything with $17.3 TRILLION in unfunded liabilities in Social Security shortly down the road.... so what is there answer? Oh that's right, blame Republicans who want to do something to try and shore it up for future generations..... its always the same in left wing la la land....TAX THE RICH!...only there are fewer and fewer 'rich people' to tax..... and all the hollow promises made by the Progressives are just that, out of money and running out of time.....t ick tick tick........ and so it goes in liberal looney land....

Look.

Borrowing funds from one account viz a viz outside borrowing makes sense, whatever party is in power.

Now, hiding that borrowing by under-reporting deficits, as both parties have long done, is flatly deceptive and poor accounting practice.

Using that history to claim SS is going under is stealing. Anyone with that cash and simple safe Treasury bonds would be sitting pretty, and that's before adjusting for inflation. You, including the money employers paid on your behalf, have easily funded your SS payments by the time you get to them. The rest is bullshit.

Any level of Government borrowing money for anything is insane unless it is a bond issue or war time. I can't believe you said that. This is how economies collapse, when governments and people refuse to live within their means.

The GOP may be stupid, but they aren't morons. The quickest way to lose power is to jeopardize the senior citizen vote. That won't happen again.

It's an accounting measure. One that was used deceptively, yes, and by the GOP absolutely as well as everyone else.
