Brain -> Fascism coming to a computer near you - Wayne Madsen - Russia Today (8/14/2010 7:22:35 PM)

I will not vote for any politician who wants different speeds for people on the Internet depending on what they pay. I believe the net neutrality and I don't know very much about this Bilderberg group.

'Fascism coming to a computer near you' - Wayne Madsen - Russia Today

(RT) – Google’s South Korean headquarters have been raided because of allegations that the internet giant stole private information from the nation’s citizens. Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt, a member of the Bilderberg group, has called for a new internet that will have a slow lane for porn and shopping but the value added content is only for those who can pay. Wayne Madsen adds that the Obama administration wants to shut the internet down to those who cannot pay for it or don’t have enough political influence....

I will not vote for any politician who wants different speeds for people on the Internet depending on what they pay.

Why not?  I pay less than for my car than someone who drives a Ferrari.  If it is technically possible to provide different solutions, then why not charge different amounts?

What does this have to do with your premise about net neutrality?

Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt, a member of the Bilderberg group, has called for a new internet that will have a slow lane for porn and shopping but the value added content is only for those who can pay.

Wow.  That would kill porn videos if they had to be accessed via dialup speeds.

Wayne Madsen adds that the Obama administration wants to shut the internet down to those who cannot pay for it or don’t have enough political influence....

How so?  If the Obama administration does nothing, then the Internet will not be available to those who cannot pay for it.  Why is doing nothing considered talking a stand?  Obama is NOT required to subsidize Internet access for all, although that would be a helluva boon to the porn industry.

Only for my cell phone which I cancelled and I will NEVER use Rogers again; they are exactly like AT&T with hidden charges.

Oh really?

Wow.  I thought there would be some competition.

Lucylastic -> RE: Fascism coming to a computer near you - Wayne Madsen - Russia Today (8/15/2010 2:11:07 PM)

You can get DSL, you can get satellite, you can get regular ol dial up, but if you want high speed cable internet access in southern ontario, you have to buy Rogers, yep

First of all I'm sick and tired of everybody trying to pick my pocket to get more money. And I think people everywhere feel this way.

Secondly, because it's not the same thing; it has to do with political equality and EDF media control. Just curious, did you listen to what the man had to say? He said the slow lanes have all the junk and value added lanes you have to pay extra for them and he said the FCC and the Federal trade commission are not doing their jobs of regulation. And he said at least Bush did not do any harm whereas Obama wants to shut the Internet down to poor people who don't have the money or political influence. The Internet was not created for companies like Google and Verizon to make extra profits it was created for the benefit of everyone.

Google itself is a company that benefited from net neutrality. Now that it is a giant it doesn't want any competition from the little guys.

There is another argument that could be made about politics. With net neutrality now smaller people have a voice in politics that's equal to the larger corporations or political organizations. And when that neutrality is gone it will be muzzled. The same goes for the big media companies. Now small firms can be on the net equally with them and people can have an equal voice but not if you take away that neutrality.

If Obama does nothing people can pay for the Internet because the prices will not go up. This guy is telling us Obama will make us pay more for what we are getting now.

Sorry, my desktop has no sound.  At times like this, I wish it did.

Actually, no.  It was created by the Department of Defense as the Arpanet, to facilitate information exchange between the private sector and government.  Consumer access came later.

I know about the Defense Department story but if they did not make the Internet for the public as you say then they did not make it for Verizon and Google to make extra obscene profits either, in my opinion.

Arpig -> RE: Fascism coming to a computer near you - Wayne Madsen - Russia Today (8/15/2010 9:31:29 PM)

One already pays different amounts for different speeds...it doesn't matter what sort of connection you have or who your provider is, they all have various speeds on offer for different prices...been that way as long as I've been online (and that goes back to the dial-up only days of BBS's and so on
