A few years ago I was asked by a friend to help her paint customers living room. When we arrive to do the estimate this exchanged happened.
Customer: “How much to paint this room?” (four equal-sized walls)
US: “Our price is $100”
Customer: “Okay, how much just to paint these three walls?”
US: “Well we still have to drive here and setup and cleanup, so $90.”
Customer: “Okay, then paint that one wall for $10, and while you’re at it paint the remaining three walls for $10 each. I should get a discount for the fourth wall, so let’s make it $30 to paint this room. That’s more than fair.”
US: "Huh?"
That’s how, in the customer’s mind, the price went from $100 to $30.
