MissAsylum -> Best Readily Available Coffee? (8/16/2010 9:13:59 AM)

in an attempt to save money during the school year, i'm trying to make my own coffee at home instead of shelling out 6 bucks a pop for coffee everyday. what are some brands of coffee that i can get easily (market or amazon) that are pretty decent? i prefer already ground or instant for the sake of time.

Instant coffee is wrong!

I like Caribou Coffee as far as larger chains go.

There is a web site, "Terroir Coffee" I have purchased from them in the past.

They aren't real cheap, but I am a coffee snob..:)

No no no instant Miss A! However as far as decent ground coffee, Green Mountain is pretty good, so is Dunkin' Donuts brand. I don't like flavored coffee though, and I drink mine black.

It is far cheaper than buying coffee out, I agree!

INSTANT COFFEE IS NOT COFFEE!!!

I don't know what kind of coffee you like... YUBAN, very good, on the dark/heavy side. Folger's breakfast blend, light and pleasant. Eight O'Clock, still as good as it ever was. Dunkin Doughnuts, darn good, stays well in the thermos.

Get a good coffee POT. We have a kitchenaid right now, but I have to say that the Mr Coffee works just fine. There is a Hamilton Beach one that holds the coffee in a cistern instead of in a pot that my friend recommends highly.

ok ok! yeesh! instant coffee is not coffee, i get it lol. thats the only thing my boyfriend has when i go over there, otherwise i buy coffee. i am not paticular on what type of coffee it is, so log as it doesn't taste burnt- i guess tgat rules out french roast.

Aynne88 -> RE: Best Readily Available Coffee? (8/16/2010 9:28:48 AM)

Lady H, first droids, now coffee :) lol.

Hey quick hijack. Battery life a problem? Mine is eating up juice like Lance Armstrong. Grrr.

I don't know what your taste buds like.

I get this

and use a french press.

I order it by the case and that lasts me about 9 - 10 months.

Despite popular opinion, Starbucks rather sucks. They roast all their beans way to dark.

A lighter roast is very beneficial to many beans.

And yes E-oclock coffe is pretty good

MissAsylum -> RE: Best Readily Available Coffee? (8/16/2010 9:54:20 AM)

i've heard that before.

i'v never had a cup that tasted full on burned so its not terrible to me.

Hello to you!    Yes- I did the lates every day - they pack on the weight.  and they never fill them all the way.

http://www.amazon.com/Folgers-Flavors-Chocolate-Ground-11-5-Ounces/dp/B001FA1K80

i buy either one of these depending on where the price is better - if possible alternate them.

and as the others said instant coffee is NOT coffee.

Oh and that Starbuck VIA stuff? EVEN WORSE THAN STARBUCK COFFEE. Bitter, thin, and hideous!!!

pahunkboy -> RE: Best Readily Available Coffee? (8/16/2010 9:59:50 AM)

If the same price- the 8 oclock mocha is a tad better.

Yeah, I bought some. It is just a caffine delivery system.

They freeze dry coffee, then thay add "micro ground" beans.

If you are gonna drink instant, but what ever is cheapest.

soul2share -> RE: Best Readily Available Coffee? (8/16/2010 10:17:26 AM)

I've heard the the Dunkin Donuts coffee is the greatest, and I've also had the Starbucks stuff in my house......as far as smell goes, the Starbucks stuff is pretty strong, even the regular blend.  (I'm not a coffee drinker, but keep it around for folks who visit that are.  I take my caffeine cold....as in diet pepsi)

I do know that alot of grocery stores coffee aisles are huge......and they might just have smaller prepackged ground flavored coffees.  If you're looking for something different, give them a try.  Or now, they have beans that you can grind right there into a bag.  I also had one friend who'd drink NOTHING but Kona coffee......she had a friend that would go to Hawaii once a year, and she'd have her bring back some.  It's rumored that Kona is a truly premium coffee, and most coffee snobs will only get it from the actual source.....not the supermarket stuff.  But I could never tell the difference when smelling it.

Another buddy of mine would just get whatever coffee was on sale, but use different flavorings either in a syrup form, or a flavored coffee creamer.  Of course, if you like your coffee black, creamers aren't what you'd beinterested in.  You can get syrups at places like World Markets.....or the specialty coffee places in the malls.

Flavored coffee is the work of the devil.

I will have no part of it.

I shall not be moved on this.

windchymes -> RE: Best Readily Available Coffee? (8/16/2010 10:21:11 AM)

Maxwell House Rich French Roast, or Folgers Gourmet Supreme are my favs at that price point. DD is great, too.

Starbucks tastes like ass

IMO. :)

pahunkboy -> RE: Best Readily Available Coffee? (8/16/2010 10:27:33 AM)

Any coffee BREWED not instant will be better then instant.  My nieghbor is stuck on instant.  It only take 3 minutes to brew a small pot.

MY fav pot is a 4 cup drip with the cone filter.

MissAsylum -> RE: Best Readily Available Coffee? (8/16/2010 10:31:58 AM)

i like french vanilla.

Miss,

how is it going on you bf trying new foods?

lusciouslips19 -> RE: Best Readily Available Coffee? (8/16/2010 10:39:12 AM)

I agree flavored coffee is the work of he devil. It gums up machines and the oils stay in the carafes and smells up the unflavored coffee..blah. Best to add your flavorings with syrup after if you need to add flavors. But it does take away from the flavors of a truly great coffee.

As the resident coffee queen who has supplied many friends..

Lavazza, Allegro and my personal favorite...Intelligencia. A chicago roaster.
