The revolution will no be televised
You will not be able to stay home, brother.
You will not be able to plug in, turn on and cop out.
You will not be able to lose yourself on skag and skip,
Skip out for beer during commercials,
Because the revolution will not be televised.

The revolution will not be televised.
The revolution will not be brought to you by the
Schaefer Award Theatre and will not star Natalie
Woods and Steve McQueen or Bullwinkle and Julia.
The revolution will not give your mouth sex appeal.
The revolution will not get rid of the nubs.
The revolution will not make you look five pounds
thinner, because the revolution will not be televised, Brother.

"Without a Revolution, Americans Are History"

What does it mean? Every nation is part of the history right now. America as a superpower perhaps? It will happen soon with or without the revolution unless they will start WW III. Then the US has a small chance to maintain the status because it has the highest firepower. US has plenty of power structures to deal with public unrest about 5 years from now when high inflation will hit.

pahunkboy -> RE: Without a Revolution, Americans Are History (8/17/2010 3:41:16 PM)

5 years?

hmm.   I could be dead by then.

Fellow -> RE: Without a Revolution, Americans Are History (8/17/2010 4:12:13 PM)

I took time to read what Roberts solutions are. He thinks import taxes on companies (tariffs) plus reduction in military spending (ending wars, cutting military budget) would bring jobs back and help to avoid the worst. I do agree with it in general. The question is who is going to do it?  I see very weak sign of such action (some in the Congress are preparing Trade Act and there is a talk for a small military budget reduction). Secondly, has US passed "the point of no return" so that whatever the government does the collapse will still be coming.  It takes long time to change the structure of the economy with tax changes. Trade wars may speed up the decay process rather than to create jobs in short run.  The US based multinational corporations will not cooperate with the policies that hurt their bottom line for sure.

pahunkboy -> RE: Without a Revolution, Americans Are History (8/17/2010 4:14:54 PM)

The problem with a new tax structure is that no one will beleive that old one would be phased out.

So that is a no go.

Elisabella -> RE: Without a Revolution, Americans Are History (8/17/2010 4:30:33 PM)

-FR-

Revolutions are violent, brutish and ugly things, and the only thing worse than a revolution is the government that takes power after one.

Your author shouldn't use the word so casually, it helps those "2nd Amendment solution" supporters glorify the idea of revolution even more.

Do you want to kill the president? Because he mandated that you buy private health insurance and some talking head managed to convince you that's "socialism"? Maybe spray his brains all over his car like they did with Kennedy, will that bring jobs back to the US? Fuck it, go blow up the White House, sending the national guard to stop riots will totally help secure the border.

Really now the US is an utter mess and I'll be the first to admit that, but a lot of people need to realize there's a difference between the American Revolution, which was a war against colonialism waged against an overseas King, and a bloody coup d'etat simply because you disagree with the decisions the President is making.

For serious.

pahunkboy -> RE: Without a Revolution, Americans Are History (8/17/2010 4:44:59 PM)

It has been a long hot summer.

Frankly the US has been pretty calm this summer.

The issue is NOT Obama.  It is a congress that is unresponsive to the people and a shill for big corporations.

pahunkboy -> RE: Without a Revolution, Americans Are History (8/17/2010 4:52:15 PM)

PS-  Elisa- being that this guy writes for the NTY- I agree with you- that to call for revolution is a dangerous/unwise thing.

I doubt we are there yet- as long as the checks cash and the dollar buys things- we are good.

If time comes-  google continuity of govt.  and look at all the facilities.

I disagree, as did the loyalists in America at the time. The British Government was legitimate, even if based overseas. So in that respect it was a revolution much like any other. If anything, the American revolution was more akin to the English civil war between the King and parliament. The upshot was still that the patriots disagreed with the legitimate government.

thornhappy -> RE: Without a Revolution, Americans Are History (8/17/2010 6:42:04 PM)

We've gone the tariff route before...like around 1930.  They weren't a big help, and spawned retaliatory tariffs, which have a negative effect on our exports.

Want to bring jobs back?  Refuse to buy cheap crap from Vietnam, Pakistan, India, China, etc.  Pay up for American goods.

Walmart used to market the fact that they had goods made in America.  If they went that way again (products manufactured in Northern Mariana Island doesn't count!) I bet a whole bunch of other companies would jump on board the bandwagon.

The revolutionaries viewed colonial rule as an illegitimate form of government, overthrew it and replaced it with a democratic republic.

If the democratic republic is overthrown, what will it be replaced with?

Not to worry PA. November 2nd. is only 10 weeks away. The first shots will be fired at the polls, throwing the liberals out.

A huge problem is that people think "if we can just get these assholes out of office..."
Guess what? The other assholes will be back IN office. And they're all from the same families, they all own the same corporations, they all went to the same college, they're all paid for by the same lobby groups. You have to realize that this isn't a popularity contest. It doesn't matter if yuo're red or blue. If you're red OR blue, you're just playing their silly game, and there won't be any chance, except more loss of privacy, loss of buying power, and loss of proper education and/or a media that is supposed to inform you.... keeping you stupid and playing along with their game.

Look at the track record over the past 50 or 100 years. Things just get worse and worse and worse, and you just keep blaming whoever is currently in power. Wake up and realize it's getting worse because they want it to, and just voting out whoever is currently in isn't going to change a damn thing.

The US doesn't have a democratic republic. The Constitution says it is a republic, the uneducated masses believe it's a democracy, but the closest definition in the dictionary to what the US is right now is fascism. Read the definitions yourself and see.

All great powers fall eventually. It's just a question of when. For the United States, it's not going to be any time soon. As another poster mentioned, the nation has a huge firepower advantage and enough cards to play to stay on top ... probably for most of our lifetimes. Never underestimate the ability of a Western Democracy to bolster themselves by picking a war on someone defenseless.

Bill Clinton helped me to form an opinion very similar to the one you just expressed.
Most of the politics that I see going on/being played out today, reminds me of a "shell game".

Time will tell, maybe something very similar to a form of Capitalism/Socialism, similar to what Canada has.

This.

(and Caitlyn it is very nice to see a post from you. I've missed them. Always very well thought out and informed.)

That IS something to be concerned about.
