When I was there, Istanbul's mosques welcomed any and all visitors, provided they remove their shoes and the women cover their hair. No questions were asked about the visitor's creed and all they wanted from us was to be respectful and quiet when service is being performed. That was it.

People have a very selective approach to history. Islam during the middle ages and arguably in the early modern age, was far more tolerant of other religions than Christianity. Muslim empires at least allowed non-Muslims to practice their religion, speak their language, engage in all trades and own estates. In Christendom Islam was forbidden, period. Since no other religion was recognized and all children must be baptized, persons found to be practicing Islam would be guilty of heresy. People convicted of heresy twice would be burned at the stake. Jews lived in ghettos; the only trades they were permitted to ply were banking, because usury was considered immoral and low. Jews were therefore thought to be immoral and low. They were routinely culled by fanatics, particularly devout monarchs, or sometimes particularly cynical ones.

Christian monarchies that had expelled Jews include England, Spain and France. Spain not only expelled its Jews, but also the Moriscos, Christian converts of Moorish descent.

If ignorance is bliss, why are the ignorant people so angry?

Here is all of Leviticus 18.

7 " 'Do not dishonor your father by having sexual relations with your mother. She is your mother; do not have relations with her.

It kinda makes you wonder how fucked up these people were that they needed ALL of these instructions?

Back in the day, God was kind of dumb. He should have said...

7 "Do not dishinor your father by having sexual relations with your mother. She is your mother; do not have relations with her you sick fuck. It's just plain gross....Anyways, have you ever really looked hard at her ass? Go fuck something young and tight, you twisted fucko. It shall be good....Or at the least a little better."

So young Domiguy followed the stream to that of a local farmer's residence down the way. There tending to some goats was a beautiful young woman dressed in purple. She lifted her dress to bestow upon me a bloody pussy with huge labia.

I fingered her once and then let seven drops of blood drip off of my fingers unto her humongous meat flaps..

"Leviticus 4 17 He shall dip his finger into the blood and sprinkle it before the LORD seven times in front of the curtain."

She was a beautiful virgin...didn't make a sound because she was gagged with some oxen balls. I took her right there by the river in a beautiful field.

Deuteronomy 22 28If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;

29Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.

Thankfully we were not "found." She seemed to be kind of bitchy and looked like she probably had some tremendous fat potential. I saw her mom in the distance making some bread. She was huge!!! Had the ass the size of an...... ass!!!

Fifty fucking shekels for that used piece of ass? I think not!

I quickly ran off. No way am I going to be tied to that piece of work for the rest of my days....I've got fishing to do!!!

What? You mean a religion would deny women rights, treat them as mere property?

Shocked. I'm shocked, I tell ya!

Let's invade the mother....er.....daughter-fuckers!

Little ol' Jeremiah:

"I will also make this city a desolation and an object of hissing; everyone who passes by it will be astonished and hiss because of all its disasters.

I will make them a terror and an evil for all the kingdoms of the earth, as a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse in all places where I will scatter them.

behold, I will send and take all the families of the north,' declares the LORD, 'and I will send to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land and against its inhabitants and against all these nations round about; and I will utterly destroy them and make them a horror and a hissing, and an everlasting desolation

'I will pursue them with the sword, with famine and with pestilence; and I will make them a terror to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse and a horror and a hissing, and a reproach among all the nations where I have driven them

Thus sayeth the lord your god, IAM.

There is more:

Deuteronomy 20:16 But of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exodus 23:31 "I will fix your boundary from the Red Sea to the sea of the Philistines, and from the wilderness to the River Euphrates; for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you will drive them out before you.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Numbers 21:2 So Israel made a vow to the LORD and said, "If You will indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Numbers 21:3 The LORD heard the voice of Israel and delivered up the Canaanites; then they utterly destroyed them and their cities. Thus the name of the place was called Hormah.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Deuteronomy 7:1 "When the LORD your God brings you into the land where you are entering to possess it, and clears away many nations before you, the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and stronger than you,
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Joshua 11:14 All the spoil of these cities and the cattle, the sons of Israel took as their plunder; but they struck every man with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them. They left no one who breathed.

I love these old quotes from the Bible…even if taken out of context.

But

Take those very same quotes, that will apply to today… remove all traces of God and Lord. Now reread them and think… Don’t they mirror the feelings of the vast majority of mankind… religious or not?

If God made us in his image would the above surprise you?

Thankfully despite all the fire and brimstone in the rules all of us sinners can be forgiven just by asking.

Butch

Ps… not preaching just thinking out loud. [sm=bowdown.gif]

And that's the point--it's as doable with Christianity as it is with Islam.

Or, as more likely, man created God in his own image.

It's why God never agrees with Himself. Religion (as opposed to spirituality) often became the realm of the self-righteous (unfortunately).

Either way it is the truth don't you think...so why make fun of something that is the truth like it or not...created by God or not?

In fact rules that are followed by atheists as well.

Yeah, totally lawless societies until a bible was written.

And none after.

I cannot agree. We'd be a tangled jungle of anarchy.

Humanity is capable of so much more--and despite the problems, we've proven it for centuries.

Playing to the lowest denominator is an excuse. It's why it works so well--no effort or thought involved.

kdsub -> RE: News outlets split in describing mosque (8/19/2010 11:58:23 AM)

And we're not

I hope you don’t think a wave of atheism will change human nature

Musicmystery -> RE: News outlets split in describing mosque (8/19/2010 12:05:06 PM)

I said nothing of the sort.

I challenged your blanket and rather simplistic generalization about human nature.

kdsub -> RE: News outlets split in describing mosque (8/19/2010 12:49:02 PM)

It would be a little silly don't you think to be anything but general in describing human nature... the proof is in the past and the present... you make of it what you will. To me it matches my contentions.

Butch
