Guys, I feel really loved and honored by your answers in this thread. That said, I'd feel uncomfortable leading a lynch mob of profile viewers, so the profile's identity will remain secret.

The history is that I sparred with holly in a thread in which we fought over some virtual cookies. In reality, I eat cookies maybe three tmes a year. But my online persona steals and eats them all the time. I suspect my online persona is less diabetic than I am.

I know a woman who made diabetic cookies all the time. She ran one of the best doughnut shoppes on earth, besides those cookies.

They were closed down because her husband was getting worse with his diabetas(?). One day after closing for good, he went blind.

My dad had the disease as well. He passed on 3 years ago this month. Mom is slowly accepting the fact that he is gone. She hates it that I go down to Austin, but that is the only way I can see my daughter/her grandchild.

One of these days, I am getting that recipe...

This is a hijack but I think that's the wrong way to go.

Diabetes is a reaction to sugar or anything that can become sugar (i.e., carbs). Splenda cookies have no sugar but they are loaded with carbs in the form of flour. So they're still not diabetic friendly.

I am concerned about artificial sweeteners and what they might do to me.

There are a lot of companies that have made a boatload of money trying to convince people that there's no big thing with diabetes - you continue to eat the way you've always eaten, but simply replace the sugar with artificial sweeteners, and you're fine. I threw all that propaganda out right away, and simply made the following changes:

1. I quit eating prepared (frozen) dinners. That stuff is loaded with carbs, as well as fats and salt.
2. I quit drinking fruit juices straight. I dilute them with soda water and ice.
3. I dialed down the carbs I eat.
4. I take Metformin and vitamins designed for diabetics.

I am tempted by all cookies that Steven cannot eat, and I confess that I should not be, because my Mom was a diabetic and my slack ass is getting to be about that age and should be more careful, but I'm not..
