1. i had just dropped out of college to become a chef
2. i was working as a sous-chef in this really crappy restaurant (i realise now it was really crappy)
3. i was reading cookbooks and taking notes in the margins
4. i was delusional
5. i didn't understand the first thing about myself
6. i had my whole life ahead of me; it was exhilerating, all that potential, life's choices
7. i still believed that most people have good intentions, that the world was a fair place, and that hard work would be rewarded
8. i believed in doing the right thing
9. i was angry: at my parents, at my roommates, at my boyfriend, etc.
10. i can't beleive how i let other people determine my worth, who i was
11. i wished i was anyone but myself
12. i hated my parents
13. i loved my cats

I'm actually a little horrified to realize that 10 years ago was exactly when I began the process of looking for a slave online. LOL. I've been looking on and off since then, not the whole 10 years. That would just be sad. Well...sadder.
Also I was studying in Madrid, and strangely allergic to coffee.
I despised the company of most people, and spent a great deal of time alone.
I learned to paint in oils.

Funny you should ask that this certain day. It is my fiftieth birthday and ten years ago, with no actual recollection of the events I can can say almost for sure. I was getting as high and drunk as I possibly could.

And as luck would have it, it fell on a Saturday. I haven't worked on a weekend in at least twenty years. Once I had what the olman called my 'bona fides' I refused to give up my weekends. No amount of money could get me in there on a weekend.

So in short, I was partying my ass off.

Happy birthday Termy! I am pretty sure you are officially a pervy old man now.

I was a still relatively new mother with an 8 month old boy. Packing our bags and about to leave for our very first trip with said child. Two weeks in Djerba/Tunisia. The things I thought we would need! The mountains of luggage!

Ten year's ago. My dom and I were still in our honeymoon stage of the relationship. I was living 1600 miles away from where I live now. I had just decided the career I had a PHD in was not for me.
Both of my parents were still alive but ailing. They both moved in with me when they got too sick to care for themselves.

Basically I took care of both until their demise. Dad passed in 06 and that is when my life re-started.

Happy Birthday, Termy!

Ten years ago, I was starting back to work, finding day care for the Things, and was learning what it was to be a single mom on the fly, while my then husband decided to move out of state to live with his girlfriend.

Ten years ago, I was still married (but the marriage was pretty much dead at that point), and working at Sun Microsystems in a job that I loved. I knew I was a Dom then but couldn't express it.

Life was simpler then.

10 years ago...

- still madly in love with the ex, things were going well at that point
- still had a good career before the craziness started
- still looking forward to many things that I am not looking forward to now

I was...preparing for sixth grade..oh wow.
I have two friends from elementary school - one is following the normal progression of education and starting her fourth year at university after a semester abroad, and the other is a single mom and stripper who recently fled the country. Funny how things turn out.

10 years ago I was 17, and still in a group home as a ward of the court, and going to school.

Ten years ago I was eleven. Around this time I believe I was packing my bags because my mother was shipping me off to live with my mean aunt. I had been kicked out of the two neighboring school systems and an alternative school. Man I was horrible.

I was working in retail as a department manager and starting to hate the company politics and lazy illogical way people got things done.. or not.
The group that I had formed 2 yrs prior was starting to attract notice from other communities.
I had nightly hug time with my son while we watched television comedies together.
I was at the beginning stages of love and the trust it takes to allow that to happen.
I was happier than I had been in a long time.
