beatmemaster -> Breast Milk (8/19/2010 9:09:49 PM)

I am wondering if anyone could tell me if it is possible to produce breast milk without actually having a baby? I have never had a child, nor do I wish to, but I would like to have milk. If it is possible do you know how I can make it happen?

Thanks

Unless I'm very much mistaken, yes...anyone can milk (I've even heard of males trying it, but fuck that).

As for how.....I'd just play with them a lot, can't hurt :) Sure someone else'll know.

Just do a search on "induced lactation" or "forced lactation".

It's possible, but not easy.

what Steve said. Of the few people I've talked with about it, it takes a Lot of Constant training and maintenance.

 This website may actually help you out...

The Adoptive Breastfeeding Resource Website (ABRW) has become an invaluable resource for induced lactation or relactation. They provide articles, resources and constant support through their message boards. You can also find details on when and how to pump, other tips and advice on increasing supply and several personal stories from women who have induced lactation.

And you do never know...my kids are teens and I still have a bit of milk.

I almost burst out laughing when my doctor suggested that I might "not want to encourage that".

Try La Leche League, too.

I fed both my babies without any problems and when I decided to produce milk for fun, it happened very quickly and very easily. What I didn't know then and what I understand now is, I was messing around with my prolactin levels. Prolactin is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland in the brain and when too much prolactin is produced (in cases such as not going through pregnancy and breast feeding or lactating naturally) it can cause stress, depression and lack of libido. It can also lead to a failure of the normal pituitary to produce other hormones, causing hormone imbalance and encroachment on the eye nerves can result in visual difficulties.
I remember the milk gushing from me and how excited I felt but what happened next was totally unexpected. I went right off sex and right off the man I love. I became over emotional and irrational.
It didn't take us long to understand lactation was having a direct affect on my mood swings and lack of libido and so we stopped.
It took me a long time to get back to where I was before I artificially forced lactation and to be honest I regret ever trying it because its the only time that our relationship has been put on rocky ground.

Yes, you can. Like Steven said, it's NOT easy. Do a search for induced lactation or forced lactation. There are multiple sites on the internet re: that and also multiple threads on collarme re: that. I've been attempting it myself and it's.....kind of.....working. Even menopausal women have been known to produce milk in limited quantities...prolactin is a pituitary hormone, not an ovarian hormone. Also, if a woman is on extra estrogen, either birth-control pills or estrogen replacement, that can interfere with it. Estrogen itself does not promote lactation, but estrogen withdrawal does by raising prolactin levels. Rubbing progesterone cream or wild yam cream directly on the breasts can promote the growth of more alveoli which are prolactin receptors. Fenugreek is an herb that's supposed to help with milk production. Also, frequent stimulation of the breasts is important, either by hand or by your partner suckling. Some helpful links are http://www.landmilkhoney.com/herbsdrugs.htm and http://stargatelibraries.com/PossibleToInduce.html. I'm finding out via experimentation, trial and error, what seems to work....for me anyway. You're more than welcome to cmail me if you want.
