First thing; it's normal! Presuming you've checked with your doctor that your thyroid's ok, etc: No street drugs, caffeine or alcohol; taper off if you're addicted. Sleeping pills don't give you the deep REM sleep, just make you unconscious. Don't nap, otherwise you won't sleep at night, and wake up the same time weekend/weekday, or sleep in less than one hour and only if you must. Go to bed at 10:30 and get up at 6:30 no matter what. Don't drive sleep-deprived. Same routine every night, just like babies. Exercise but no closer to bedtime than two hours. No TV news, just a nice familiar book for half-an-hour before bed, then a shower/bath, brush your teeth, have an orgasm, and lights out! Cover all lights including your clock radio. Use two alarms if you keep rousing yourself to look at the time. Deal with your daytime stress during the day; if you find you're worrying, write it down in a journal after supper, then shut it and put it in a drawer, and DON'T OPEN IT until the next day. Remember, you still get microsleep when you don't think you've closed your eyes, so stay down at least one hour. If you're still awake, get up and do something light and boring, like alphabetising your CDs or ironing a shirt. After an hour, go back to bed. Don't watch TV or eat a big meal; drink some water or eat some cereal if you're hungry. White noise machine or light classical all-night radio station. Did I mention ORGASMS!? Good luck!
