And I do indeed run it my way! I am THRILLED that the chief shitkicker did suit up and start his own group, where I sincerely hope he draws in all the trolls and dickweeds. Wouldn't that be divine?

That "other site" is a cesspool with no outlet for those using it as a dating or pic-surfing/jerking site.   Their search features suck, their moderation system blows.  Rarely have I ever seen anyone gain control of a thread direction and keep it on track.

If you truly find some use in that other site, I invite you to call me and explain how you navigate to anything of value in that place.

The ONLY use of that site for me is that it takes the place of Yahoo groups. I am one of those "community organizer" kinds of folks, so for that it works. For anything ELSE? Epic, epic fail.

I am sorry it is an epic fail and that I won't get to experience your expert tutelage.

As far as Fetlife's BDSM-facebook type properties, I found the feature annoying because of all the damn notices.  I don't care who's nude pics my friends were looking at last or what comments they made about those nude pics.  It has gotten so I hate having people on my friend's list because of that annoying feature.  I wish they would just accept that it is a troll site, add a fucking profile surfing function, install real forums, real menus and a real search engine... and redesign the graphics.  Then you might get some content worth looking at in their forums.  Did I mention that FetLife sux???

At least YahooGroups had some more friendly features.  If people wouldn't abuse the reply to all feature so much, it might be a tolerable tool.  At least it makes for a nice newsletter membership tracking tool.

My opinion is that I split the difference.  The benefit to yahoo groups was the confidentiality factor.  If you have a play party that is invite only for your group, yahoo and the respective list are still the way to go, in My opinion.  Not every event is for notification to the general public.  A run of the mill munch, more and more local groups are putting those on Fet.

As for 'personals' I can't really say that I use either for that.  The majority of the yahoo groups that I'm on have a 'no trolling' via the group policy.  (Though I will agree with RS that not every communication between individuals needs to be done through the group board.)  I have very little interest in personals on Fet for the same reason.  I'm still a good old fashioned meet Me at the munch/event kind of person.

Two step guide to tastefulness:
1. Edit what you write.
2. Pretend someone you know is reading it.
