Advertising propaganda?! I don't think I've ever seen FL advertised anywhere! The "features" of the site do need improving, I agree, but it is still a work in progress, and that is made quite clear by the regular updates announced via the site.

We as a couple both have our own profiles on FetLife, as well as CollarMe, alt.com, informedconsent, The Slave Register. The ONLY site which doesn't have guys pestering her for sex/pics/servitude etc or girls from Nigeria or Ghana pestering me for money is FetLife.

I agree mostly - but one thing FL is very good at is the local side of things. Events, groups and profiles can all be searched locally and it is, at least for us, an invaluable resource to keep up to date with what is going on in the local area, without having to trawl through stuff from thousands of miles away.

I don't know where the UK is on the top countries on CollarMe, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is in the top 5 countries, and yet you cannot search locally. If you're in the US you can narrow your search to a state or by ZIP code, but none of that functionality is available to UK users, or Australian/NZ, South African etc.

They are not uncensored.  In fact, they have almost the same "censoring" that CM has.  In both cases, a user has to report a problem photo.  And if it violates the TOS, it's removed.  For exmaple, you will see photos of children there, but only because no one has reported them.  If they are reported, they are removed.

I go there regularly (of course, you don't know me, so your point stands ),

These views are not necessarily those of the MGT (The Midget) (TY, Robert Anson Wilson, who wrote a trilogy with more conspiracy foolishness than PAhonk could ever come up with.).

Gotta agree, after seeing this thread I signed up and the place was not at all user friendly. It works more like facebook than anything except they have no real search feature, certain areas are omitted due to what I can imagine is site constraint. A good example is they did not have Brooklyn as an option for an area so I had to just put NY, New York which to us is just Manhattan. From what I found and it may just be me but the community was pretty dead, the last post made on the most popular group localized within NYC was back in may. In the first hour though I did get many responses mostly from men I politely turned down, so I guess the community isn't completely gone.

So far i'm enjoying CM the most, the people here are just so nice I cannot stress that enough. I'm not expecting to find a domme asap because i'm realist in knowing the odds of that, in the meantime I am here reading and learning as much as I can for the day when I do get to be of service. So when that day comes I will be better equipped to serve, which will be in part thanks to the friendly and helpful people here on cm.

I am interested to note that the FetLife activity in somewhere like NYC is so low.

I live near Brighton in the UK (population about 150,000) and there are 4 or 5 new topics being started each day in the Brighton Under 35 forum.

Perhaps those of you who found FL disappointing are in an area where it is not used so much. Around me, everyone I know who'd into bdsm/alt is on FL and it is the primary way of keeping up to date with everything.

Perhaps I used it wrong but not likely, I even found a munch group that gets together right in the particular area I am in and the posts were very old. It just felt like a ghost town, I did post something there just in case but I have very low expectations for fet life, a good idea gone wrong.

What is implied by this standard of referencing ALT? Is ALT still what it used to be as a web based social network and dating sight or has it too gone the way of VHS tape and dial up modems?

I ask what is this ALT standard as of all the sights I have been on I have only met people from ALT. Specifically I have only met people that I have ever had a relationship with in the lifestyle from ALT, but that was also several years ago. Since I am single, I have been tossing around subscribing to ALT again but am quite leery based on present of other sights.

Status: offline 		Having been an alt user on and off for a number of years, I have a love/hate relationship with it.
If you're looking for a new partner/playmate/whatever but aren't prepared to pay $20 a month, then it is not much good as you have to pay even to view profiles, but there are a lot of groups, forums, articles and stories, many of which are very interesting and informative and are free to use. There are also a number of free chat rooms and a free instant messaging service (although that is incredibly unreliable).
If you are willing to pay, then as a dating site it is just as good as any other and of course the ability to message others is useful from a social point of view as well.

Of course, there are the usual fakes, prostitutes and pervs but you'll get that anywhere.
