The family business, Koch Industries, was built up by their brothers' father Fred, an "arch-conservative" and member of of the staunchly anti-Communist (some might say "paranoid") John Birch Society.

In 2008, the three main Koch family foundations gave money to 34 political and policy organizations, many of which promote a skeptical view of global warming. The Kochs, for instance, funded the launch of the libertarian Cato Institute, which has been a fierce opponent of environmental reform. They also have given large sums to the Heritage Foundation and the Independent Women's Foundation, both doubters on the question of manmade climate change.

In 2004, David Koch helped found conservative advocacy group Americans for Prosperity, which has been "instrumental in disrupting the Obama Presidency." The Kochs' involvement, has been "intense"; one source even says it is "micromanaged" by the brothers — a charge they deny. "By giving money to 'educate,' fund and organize Tea Party protesters, [the Kochs] have helped turn their private agenda into a mass movement."

The billionaire Koch brothers: Tea Party puppetmasters?
The New Yorker makes a case that a pair of wealthy brothers is the force behind the Tea Party movement. Here, 5 key assertions from a new article

http://theweek.com/article/index/206405/the-billionaire-koch-brothers-tea-party-puppetmasters

Covert Operations
The billionaire brothers who are waging a war against Obama.

The Kochs are longtime libertarians who believe in drastically lower personal and corporate taxes, minimal social services for the needy, and much less oversight of industry—especially environmental regulation. These views dovetail with the brothers’ corporate interests. In a study released this spring, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst’s Political Economy Research Institute named Koch Industries one of the top ten air polluters in the United States. And Greenpeace issued a report identifying the company as a “kingpin of climate science denial.” The report showed that, from 2005 to 2008, the Kochs vastly outdid ExxonMobil in giving money to organizations fighting legislation related to climate change, underwriting a huge network of foundations, think tanks, and political front groups. Indeed, the brothers have funded opposition campaigns against so many Obama Administration policies—from health-care reform to the economic-stimulus program—that, in political circles, their ideological network is known as the Kochtopus.

David H. Koch in 1996. He and his brother Charles are lifelong libertarians and have quietly given more than a hundred million dollars to right-wing causes.

The difference is that Soros puts his money behind his principles and values, and these stooges put their money behind whatever happens to further their corporate interests. Are you really unable to see the difference?

Or maybe it's ok because Soros is a liberal, and the Koch brothers are conservative. ??

I'll take the Kock brothers capitalistic corporate interests over Soro's socialistic government interests any day.

Just out of curiosity, do you see anything contradictory in these two statements from your link?

In the interest of disclosure, I should note that for the past few summers I have mentored young journalists as part of a program funded by the Koch family. I have been paid a largely inconsequential honorarium for my significant investment of time. I can honestly say that I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t believe in the program, and as for the Koch brothers’ supposedly covert war, I will note that if I had any doubt about who I was working for, the program is called the Charles G. Koch Summer Fellow Program.

Alas, Mayer’s piece is laden with bias an (sic) distasteful innuendo.

The point would be that the supposedly grassroots teabaggers have corporate sponsors that are using the dupes to advance their own interests.

And this is not the first time that has been shown.

You could be right, I might be mistaking a different Washington paper for this one.  All I know is it has very little journalistic integrity.  Very few News Papers do anymore.

If you are mistaking one paper for another, how can you be so sure this one has "very little journalistic integrity"?

Because NO NEWS PAPER anymore really has journalistic integrity, no media in AMERICA  has journalistic integrity anymore, ok.  I have to watch three different news cast and read five different news papers just to get the complete unadulterated facts of any given story.  The Times and the Examiner are both "tabloid"  papers and believe me it is called "tabloid journalism" for a fucking reason.  If I mistook the rag that is the Washington Times (Moon's paper), for the rag that is the Examiner (Anschutz' paper), does that invalidate my view they are BOTH pieces of shit?

And if you scratch a lil farther I am sure you will find Richard Mellon Scaife and his Regenery press doing all they can to slander the President just as they did with the Clintons.

No. Maybe try reading it again with your auto-snark turned off? I thought the leap was quite well supported.

I'm guessing you'll follow in LAM's tracks on the, "no, really, Soros is different; he believes," path, and that's way too pointless a conversation.

First, try checking your attitude. No one is attacking you. There is no reason for the language you deem necessary to try and make your point... which in fact only belittles your point.

Second, you made a mistake. I asked a question instead of jumping all over for your lack of knowledge. No need to get pissy.

Third, if you require so much information from so many sources, perhaps its time you changed those sources. I typically read a story, verify it with two sources, and then i take a wait and see attitude. Getting so upset, and your choice of language indicates you do, wont do your blood pressure any good.

I dropped the "f-bomb" for emphasis, as  I knew they were different owners but can never remember which is which.  You obviously don't live in or near Philly, where the broadcast news thoroughly sucks.   Our news paper situation isn't much better.  Generally I have to read about three news papers on line to get the facts of a story and all three pretty much have to be from different cities as every city will skew a national story to that particular region.  As I have gotten older I have seen the quality of "news" decline as much or more than the  attention span of the average american
viewer.

Soros is always going to be an appealing target for disgruntled demogogues because he's a rich European Jew who has embarrassed a generation of economists and financial institutions by more accurately predicting market problems than they did, even though he had no formal training in economics himself. But the values that Soros supports through his foundations do not further his financial interests; if anything, he's working for institutional changes that would only curtail his own wealth. So yes, I'll be so bold as to say that Soros believes. When South Africa was still under apartheid, Soros supported black students at the University of Cape Town, and since then has given millions to universities in Eastern Europe. He has also given millions to Millennium Promise, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending extreme poverty, especially in Africa.

Now compare that to the profit-seeking crap that Koch Industries has supported:

http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Koch_Industries

I'm sorry, it's just not the same. One gives money to causes because he believes in ending poverty around the world. The Koch family gives money to causes like deregulating the oil and refining industry, of which Koch happens to be the largest privately owned company in America. Puh-leeze.
