ORIGINAL: Toppingfrmbottom One time we had a dead rat behind some book cases, and it'd stink really bad for 5-10 minutes constantly an then perhaps in another 10 - 20 minutes you couldn't smell it at all, and then through out the day you'd go through it becoming noticeable, an the not noticeable, then noticeable, then not noticeable. It's the weirdest thing, you'd think dead rotting mouse would stink constantly, not switch between now it smells and now it don't. What your probably experiencing is simply your brain getting used to the "smells" in your environment. The fact that it keeps coming and going may be due to the degree of saturation at any given moment which could be caused by "airflow patterns" in your home. I have never gotten used to a smell like your talking about though..rotting animals, skunk scent or strong scents like that..maybe they diminish but I'm certainly aware of them.
