Politesub53 -> Anything goes ? (8/25/2010 4:59:27 PM)

If I have learnt anything since joining CM, this is it. What is right for me may not be right for someone else, what is right for them, may not be for me. I came onto the scene with a few set ideas on what was acceptable and what wasnt. They were soon quickly blown out of the water. For instance, I have never got "Poly" maybe thats due to prefering one to one, maybe its due to a lack of confidence in myself. I now get that it is okay for anyone to be "into" anything, as long as its legal ( Yes a contradiction in terms for anyone liking illegal stuff  )

Take the kissing thread, so many varied replies of whats right, yet each reply in its own way, was correct. I guess what I am saying is search for what you want, compromise on what you can, dont compromise on what you cant. That will lead to failure as I see it. The answer when setting out on a relationship is talk, talk, and talk again, yet stay openminded as much as possible. Hopefully we will all find what we seek at some point.

A little late night musing from the UK. [:D]

I have no doubt that you will, you lovely man. [:)]

I think a lot of the time the problems are in knowing what you can and can't compromise on. Or, at least, that's where I struggle.

Yep, I definately realized some of my notions were wrong...
More importantly, I realized that there are subs with personality types that actually fit mine!

There was a whole thread about this from a female sub perspective.

Must be related to youth, because color me confuzzled, I don't have a clue either.

Sometimes when compromising too often it *feels* wrong, but I don't know about specific things.

Not a big deal though...

Your words speak total truth.  I couldn't agree more.

Wait twenty years, you will be much closer to knowing. [:D]

(yeah I had to insert a patronising remark! heh.)

Compatibility. I tend to think that if there's one crucial determiner for making any kind of relationship work, it's the magic contained by the concept 'compatibility'.

With that & some work & commitment & etc, a 'functional' relationship can probably unfold for however long . . .. Without compatibility I tend to suspect that a lot of work, commitment, & etc is gonna be absolutely necessary to have any hope . . . . But that may be a little on the hyperbolic side, lol . . . .. [;)]

& that's just on the 'vanilla' side of things, it would seem even more so in BDSM contexts . . . .. .
