Playing the violin in Junior High--that's like Middle School for you youngsters. There was only me & a flute player in the beginning orchestra, so we were put in the beginning band class. The day that the beginning band went out to march around the football field was the day I openly rebelled. Imagine a violinist marching with a band around the football field.

The original WWF, Bruno Sammartino, "Chief" Jay Strongbow, Ted DiBiase,
Nikolai Volkoff,  Gorilla Monsoon, George "The Animal Steele.  All those dudes, before "wrasslin" became too big for their own britches and tried to sue World Wildlife Fund over the WWF initials.

Fondly,

haha  now this one is funny and dorky to me...lol
ummm...Getting kicked out of Brownies the first day and not knowing why. Singing Frosty the Snow Man on Xmas Morning on the JP Patches show. Smashing flower petals to make my own perfume. Climbing in the paper dumpster behind the Priests house and finding their Xrated magazines. Climbing high trees and sitting there really quietly spying on people. Chasing the boys with a plastic machine gun making the sound effects. Sneaking away in my Catholic school uniform to the Hari Krisna house down the street.  Too curious for my own good.

Reading The Chronicles of Narnia..and acting it out on the playground. Same with those formulaic dragon-infested fantasy or spaceship-y scifi books.
Reading while hula hooping, which is the only reason I passed gym, and I was happy because I didn't have to put my book down - I don't think anyone recognized my yearbook photos in elementary school without my nose in a book. I was that kid. I also ran into things a lot.
Missing a spelling test and homework announcements because I was reading under my desk. I actually got in trouble for this - not because I was reading exactly, but because Fear of Flying wasn't considered appropriate extracurricular material for a fifth grader.
Getting called to the principle's office to be congratulated for getting published. I was terrified, I kept trying to remember if I did anything wrong.
Going to the museum for a King Tut exhibit and explaining to random people the different uprisings and intrigues that were happening when this piece was made, and different ways that was used, and lecturing a total stranger on lapis lazuli for ten minutes...yeah...and this was two weeks ago. For the record, she asked the question. I just don't think she was expecting such a detailed answer. [8|] I also used to sign birthday cards, etc in basic heiroglyphs.
Having the Dinosaur Ridge guide's schpiel (sp?) memorized when I was six.
Begging my grandma to teach me how to read. Not to be outdone, my grandpa decided to show me how to take apart a computer monitor and harddrive. I was five. After that I typed my short stories, left blank spaces for illustrations, and presented my family with a new 'manuscript' every week. Super dorky.
Still drawing dinosaurs because they're awesome. Triceratops is my favorite, with pterodactyls and plesiosaurs tied for second.
Looking forward to the Tron sequel, and considering dressing up for the midnight premiere. If this seems extreme, look up the updated design for womens' costumes - pretty freakin hot. Now the real question: user or program?

Rather than listing them and dating myself, I will simply say that there was nothing I did as I child that was not geeky!

Wanna hear dorky?  I was in the boy scouts till I was almost headed to college.  Even went to 2 National Jamborees

Maybe that's why I'm good with knots.

I don't have to imagine it.  Watching the Rice University marching band once upon a time there were several stringed instruments on the field.

ShaharThorne -> RE: What's the dorkiest thing you liked as a kid? (8/27/2010 12:43:47 PM)

Me learning to play a small organ in place of a piano...which I hated...never used the left arm because of an arm broke and healed the wrong way. All I learned was to play the piano with my right hand.  Reading MAD magazine instead of a regular book or some other magazine.  Ended up with a sick sense of humor.

Lizard took both Violin and Voila in J.H. and last year in H.S.  She is not allowed to have any music this year (she is an alternate Voila this year.) because the school is having a blended year (both 9 & 10 grade) to be sure that she is on the proper course (taking Latin II)  I hope she gets the Latin team again

Since she is taking Integrated Physics & Chemistry..Now only do I fear her creating a bomb in class, now I am afraid of that said bomb  developing a wormhole or a black hole.  [sm=afraid.gif]

Attack and Defend?
Garbage Patch Kids
Jelli Bracelets
Scratch and sniff stickers
Rainbow Brite
The Carebears
He-man and She-ra
roller skating basketball
going out the 5th of July and collecting spent fireworks
inventing "the children's circus"; then designating myself the MC
digging holes in the backyard
making a "parade" for the 4th of July; making a tape of myself playing the Star Spankled Banner (with one finger) on the piano; broadcasting the tape for the neighborhood to hear, while being pulled in a red Radio Flyer, while the rest of the kids rode behind in their plastic hot rod tricycles
Slumber parties; making brownies at 2 a.m.; eating them out of the pan before they cooled
ghost stories
Fudgecicles
Getting all chocked up listening to "America the Beautiful"
the pledge of allegiance
For the first 7 years of my life: singing "Park, the herald angels sing!"
Wondering what a "rampart" is
being shocked when someone said a bad word
wanting to be an astronaut
wanting to pogo stick my way into the Guiness Book of World Records

I can't believe I ever ate this, but as a kid I liked white bread topped with a mixture of corn syrup and peanut butter.  Sounds yucky now.
