Aneirin -> RE: Oikophobia (8/29/2010 5:55:24 PM)

I when I come across a new word search it as to it's meaning and its Etymology, oikophobia does not as far as I can ascertain exist in the English language, nor does it feature in Etymology on line, so I can only understand beyond the fear of oiks, it is a new word created by someone for their own purpose.

I am aware of the Greek meaning of oikos, but for it not to travel down through the ages attached to phobia, I can only conclude the person concerned wished to coin a new word to suit their purpose, where existing words did not explain what the person was trying to say. If it was that what they were trying to say had any credence, but then perhaps the coining of a new word, or retrieval a word otherwise lost in history makes what the person is saying as important as opposed to just words that go in one ear and out the next as is common with those that in reality have nothing to say.

I'm wondering if we should consider a reflexive hate response to the mere mention of Ronald Reagan as a symptom of this condition.

Does anybody have that? I tend to see a lot more fear and loathing aimed at the Kenyan than at Saint Ronnie of the monster deficit on here...

There are several regular posters who will almost always hit even a hint of Reagan bait dropped into the water.

Funny you would see it that way, since the most reliable user of hate-speech regarding my President around here is you.

I wouldn't call it islamophobia, I'd use the term bigoted stupidity, however that's just me

Yeah, Arpig, that's just you.

I forget who said it (Pat Buchanan?) but right after 9/11 they said that the quislings on the far left would be siding with al qeada and the muslims.

Who is "they"?
What is "Far Left"?
Why would Progressives side with AQ?
What Progressives sided with AQ?

Why don't you stop pretending to be an MOR "Independent"? Everyone who reads your posts knows you are Far Right.

Come out of the Closet, dude.

Look, soon as one brings up culture...you step onto a very slippery slope of presumptions and prejudices held by the observer. Is the culture of freedom the same as the culture of profits...shared by almost all people ? Hardly. But other cultures could say we are all at fault for what our leaders do either militarily or financially as...part of our culture. That is becoming more increasingly accurate.

Is the culture of killing old widows and female multilation...a culture of that entire society ? So just what IS 'western culture ?' Furthermore, the right and the left when preaching some...some western civil values, argue correctly that nobody need be...slave to any culture.

BTW Krauthammer has become a czarist elitist, arguing it seems that those servants and slaves out there are destined to be that...by their culture. It is also a resort to denegrate the messenger by 'how he lives' over what he says or does. "Well, he's a product of their culture.'

The Chinese fascist have and continue to argue that civil freedoms as in the west and govt. at the consent of the governed, is not a...part of their culture. Pretty handy term isn't it when one seeks to judge even some imaginary group of people.

Thus, Rodger Scruton (British philosopher who coined the term) is wrong...very wrong.
