Sounds like I was pretty close.....what I don't get though....if they were worried enough about what might be in it to delay it....why weren't they there to hear it read in the first place?

Typically, 90+ percent of the time, your senator or representative is NOT in the chamber when things are being read. Most of the speeches you see on CSpan are to an empty or nearly empty house. Why you ask? Practicality. A congressman cant get much work done if he is sitting in the audience listening to someone drone on about why the highway budget needs to have $100,000 added so that his district can work to eradicate the purple spotted cane toad as their mating season caused an accident last march. They sit in their office and basically watch CSpan like the rest of us while they craft their OWN earmarks for sayyyyyyy a bridge to an island with 3 people on it to stimulate the economy with construction jobs.

What I meant is that if they spend all their time listening to others drone on, they will have no time to get work done in their own office crafting legislation, answering questions from constituents, etc. Sorry for the lack of clarity. I guess I was concentrating more on the satire of the moment.

420 to 1? I guess there were a bunch of Republicans in The House, that had time to read the bill. What is the excuse of those Republicans in the Senate? No, this issue, is all about the election. The Republicans want to stave off anything, until they control Congress (which is a fantasy). Why would Republicans want to really investigate a industry that supllies their warchests with millions every years? They want to be in power, then vote 'yes' on a bill that amounts to a 'hand slap' for BP. The irony to this is, the number of people in the Gulf States, who will vote Republican to 'get even with Obama'; even though Mr. Obama has done much more for the Gulf States then the GOP in the last few months. If the media was REALLY as liberal as conservatives say, shouldn't this have been news back in late June or mid July at the latest? As this is really the first I'm hearing about it. And I do try to keep up with whats going on in Washington, D.C.

I got news for ya joether. Big oil greases palms on the Dem side of the aisle as well. Maybe not to the extent that they donate to the Republicans but they do. It's called hedging your bets.

If the Democrats what an investigation, even though it might cost them 'donations' from the oil industry, to investigate the oil industry; isn't that like say 'not taking bribes from the special interests'? Part of the job of us citizens, is to keep things accountible, accurate, and honest. In this case, a real investigation in to the cause and actions, should be studied, or lease, we Americans risk repeating history.
