I admire Dr. Paul for his common sense. He sees the Mosque issue for exactly what it is, to distract from what’s really going on.

Ron Paul is 100% correct, but I eagerly await the cherry picking of his words to support the counter of the argument he makes in this video.

Realistically,

I agree with Ron Paul; it is a distraction. He said actually he does not care if it will be built or not.
Islamic groups are not purely religious organizations, they represent often "invade and conquer" type of immigration. Londonistan mosques demonstrate it clearly. 9/11 group was meeting in the mosque in Germany. So, the demonstrators have a point. The protest is based on the psychology protecting fading Anglo European cultural dominance. Multiculturalism is a myth. Mosque itself is just a symbol. Ron Paul thinks obviously symbols do not matter. I do not agree fully with this.

I see so much ignorance and stupidity posted about the UK, hardly any of it based in historical facts. Multiculturalism isnt a myth in the UK, nor has it been for the last two hundered years, with the passing of the Trinitarian act ( I think thats the name )

The MAJORITY of Muslims in the UK were born here, or moved here due to holding British passports. There is a minority out to cause trouble, but we recognise its just that, a minority. You can hardly invade and conquer if you are alread a UK citizen, which shows your post for what it is....... arrant nonsense. As it happens, the first Mosque in the Uk was built by an Englishman who converted to Islam while living in Morrocco. ( SP ? )

Sorry about my ignorance. I had (false) impression based on news headlines. Apparently some Imams  there have set up Sharia councils and courts and intend to expand.  I have never been in the UK.

Let’s begin with the basics -

1). It’s not a mosque. It’s a community center.
2).The community center proposed will be built two blocks away from ground zero.
3). Even if it WERE a mosque, and WERE being built at ground zero, that would be fine because

a). even if you believe the official story about Sept. 11, it was OBL and Al Qaeda that did the deed, not all of Islam, and
b). There is this thing called freedom of religion which means that we don't get to ban places of worship from being built because we don’t agree with them.

Thanks for the reply.

The Sharia councils are nothing new, they have their own way of do things, as does the Jewish community with the Beth Din courts. It works well for them, but neither system is above the UK law and it isnt compulsory to use them. You are correct that there are some concerns, but in general it isnt seen as a problem except in some right wing sections of the press.

Originally, my thought was related to a question how much  subconscious fear and desire to preserve the traditional local culture plays into such protests?
Only fool would think Islamic faith makes bad people. I live happily together with huge Islam community in Vancouver BC.
