I heard bits and pieces of President Obama's speech yesterday.
I heard President Obama state that he was going to put more emphasis on the American economy, and job creation.

Any idea's on what industries the jobs will be created in?
We have some very bright posters around here, and deep thinkers.

I would love to hear where people think some of the millions of jobs, that are needed NOW, will be coming from.

Will many of them be well paying jobs with bright futures?
What does the future look like for the struggling middle class in America?
Is the middle class really being "hollowed out?"

He has been in office nearly 20 months now. Unemployment has not changed. Home sales and auto sales are the slowest in nearly 50 years. What happened to the 'lazor like' focus on jobs he promised a year ago ? Did anyone think he looked a little on edge reading that speech ? He has reason to be.

Through the many slumps i have seen, it's always the service industry that creates the jobs, like we are building loads of supermarkets in the uk, great if you want a career as a shelf-stacker. The problem seems to be at least where i live, there are tens of thousands of immigrants, and more coming every day, all those service jobs which would have stimulated the recovery, are now taken by people who will work for less money. We are creating massive prroblems for the near future!

what industry could millions of jobs supply, well something Obama was saying about when he was elected, remember his desire for an alternative energy, well one source of energy is perhaps being overlooked and the raw materials will be with us as long as there is animal kind on this planet, the shit industry. Instead flushing shit into water systems to be treated and made drinkable, collect the stuff and use it for gas production, everyone could be involved in that, producing and collecting the stuff and doing something useful with it, for we are wasting a precious energy source.

And just googling a flippant random idea, I find another vaunting human waste as a potential energy source ;

And just think, when the shit has been used for fuel production, what are we left with, something to replace chemicals that we shove on our fields, compost, or it could be used for making stuff, I have no idea what, but as technology moves on , new ideas come forth.

In answer to your question, Marini...it could be anybody's guess as to what Obama will come up with.  If I had the money and the focus that I once had I would go back to school.  Obama is certainly making it easier for people (not children, as children already go lol).  I would probably, if I did, concentrate on learning or being credentialed in something like solar power or wind power.  Maybe technical design, R&D, in any one of the various alternatives for energy.  That would be one way I think jobs are going to be created, and by the time you earn at least a BS degree, I would hope that field will be opening up.  Someone said service-oriented jobs.  Well, you can have service oriented jobs in all kinds of places, from cleaner energy, to plain ole customer service.  As someone who works in customer service, I have had an abundance of work (increase in hours and even in my wages) as clients scramble to find out how their customers think and how to keep their business. 

But I really think the key to this will be through higher education.  For those inclined to further theirs.

Thanks for commenting matey.
We here in the States seem to be in a similiar situation.
We are certainly at a point we have a lot more "people" here legally AND illegally, than we have jobs available.
The question is, whatever will we DO about our situation?

One thing is for certain, everyone is not in a position to go back to school for years and getting a degree in certain fields, does not even guarantee you a job these days.

The issue for us in America is the economy, and if things including jobs don't turn around, the future for many will be bleak.

What is sad about the responses to my OP is the fact, that many people have NO idea how or were we will "create" the jobs needed to stimulate the economy.

Will the jobs come out of thin air?

Where the hell are all the jobs needed going to come from?
That is the 10 million dollar question, and how many of these jobs will have any real future???

The fucking "free market" global economy is not working out for us dude.
Rampant corporate greed, unbridled outsourcing and a few other wonderful policies assisted in creating the cold reality of what we are facing now, and it is not pretty.

Marini, my magic eight ball says "doubtfull."
Anytime a job becomes "good" with "good pay and benefits" it gets outsourced to a foreign country.

Hi Marini

The problem is that the stimulus money that actually went to creating jobs- basically around $125B- has been inadequate but it did do something useful. Probably about 2/3rds of it actually went to something that might have some leverage about creating more jobs.

More critical is the lack of Uncle Sam being a good first customer. While I generally am happy about R+D spending, the reality is that its disconnected from job creation. What will create jobs is new demand- and that comes with challenges. We need to be building a smarter grid, better energy storage systems, and more renewable energy production. But we also need some challenges like fuel cell contracts or EV contracts from organizations like the post office. Why aren't postal delivery vehicles electric powered? They should be- and if we'd put out a proposal that a vehicle that has sufficient range to do the job and will last for 20 years will get $20K per unit- you'd have a market and a new industry. But until the dollars are hitting the table to create new demand- job creation is going to be relatively stagnant compared to our need.

Another alternative would be to provide backup systems for energy storage for federal buildings. We'd need to come up with what a reasonable price should be and offer it- on a large scale.

I've already bellyached ad nauseam about how the military should have been buying technology like fuel cells, EVs, better water filtration etc and instead has wasted our dollars on idiotic weapons systems that don't work.

In summary- until Uncle Sam becomes a smarter shopper- we're in trouble.
