As evidence continues to pile up in the years to come, many more will come to the realization that they were on the wrong side of climate change and it's devastating effects on our world.

Noted anti-global-warming scientist reverses course

With scientific data piling up showing that the world has reached its hottest-ever point in recorded history, global-warming skeptics are facing a high-profile defection from their ranks. Bjorn Lomborg, author of the influential tract "The Skeptical Environmentalist," has reversed course on the urgency of global warming, and is now calling for action on "a challenge humanity must confront."

Oh, how times have changed.

In a book to be published this year, Lomborg calls global warming "undoubtedly one of the chief concerns facing the world today" and calls for the world's governments to invest tens of billions of dollars annually to fight climate change.

The problem with science, is on the understanding of science as it relates to non-scientists. Non-scientists do not understand the arguements 'for' or 'against' a particular subject or concept in science. That a 'theory' is more or less, someone's guess, and isnt important. Shouldn't surprise anyone that scientists just might know alittle bit about their field, then a non-scientists, eh?

Its one thing to be skeptical of evidence, its another to ignore facts in favor of a fantasy or religious/philsophical belief. Yes, there are some scientists who have been sketical of the evidence for years. The problem is, many people take that to mean, the evidence is wrong and incorrect; and hence, should not be taken seriously. Even though, that is the furthest thing from the truth. The problem also is, that the general population does not understand the deep, scientific stuff, unless someone dumbs it down. Even more so for conservatives (hey, you guys have Creationist scientists voting Republican).

I'm sure some level of evidence was reached by the person in question, that dictated a change of understanding from skeptic to believer. Now, 'believer' isn't the right word (as its a religious term), but for purposes of explaining this concept....it'll have to do. So now, this scientist will start seeing more and more information that may or may not keep justifying the current theory in the scientific community. Again, scientists, tend to think alittle differently then most people, on the topic of science.

And just so you know, Brain, its not 'global warming' its 'Climate Change'. 'Global Warming' is used to help the uneducated understand what Climate Change is actually doing.

That's how science works. Reproducible experimental evidence chips away at a paradigm untill the paradigm must be rejected.

Sherlock Holmes never existed in reality. Hence, his world, is not based on the laws of reality either. Doesnt mean his stories werent interesting....

Science does not work on the assumption, if the evidence that everything else is wrong, the only remaining thing has to be correct. One still has to show evidence the last thing is correct. Otherwise, if Creationist disprove the Theory of Evolution, they say, Creationism has to be correct (even though they havent shown the burden of evidence).

But its not just the knowledge of science on Climate Change that is useful to mankind, but applications of that knowledge. What applications exist for the Theory of Evolution for example? We develop new therapist to fight cancer and other deadly illnesses. Used in computer programs of many sorts (took a clever software guy to incorporate the idea). It helps other scientists understand how changes in a species develop over time, given enviromental changes. It helps develop better argiculture methods.

What are the applications of Creationism?

Science is alot more, then just 'knowing about something for the sake of knowing it'. Its disappointing most Americans under value a good scientific education.

I remember a couple of years ago, one of those "talking head shows" was advertising "The eminent Dr. Whatsisname of Oxford University will talk to us about climate change". No, I'm not saying which side he was taking because both sides do this. I watched and some of the stuff he was saying just didnt add up.
I Googled him. He WAS a PhD. He WAS a tenured profssor at Oxford University.

His doctorate was in "Classics" and his claim to fame was a groundbreaking translation of "The Iliad"

BOTH sides pull this crap because most folks when they hear the term "Doctor" it is pretty much instant credibility.

Remember. Half of the population is of below average ingtelligence and that is who they are (successsfully) trying to fool.

Be critical when you read.

It doesn't have anything to do with "global warming" or, as I guess they're calling it these days, "climate change."
Any "arguments" on this fantasy are like religious arguments; "My invisable sky-friend is more powerful than your invisable sky-friend!"
And what does this "Political Scientist" have to do with "Science?" Or Engineering? He has a Ph.D.... in bullshit. Boy, must be some real "difficult" thesises for that!
Again, I'd like to see the "global warmers" in parades wearing green sports coats with beanies with propellers on them.
Maybe they could have a "silent drill" team using giant thermometers instead of rifles like the Marines.
And they could have a slogan or "shout", something like ,"If you ain't a believer you ain't shit!"
And they could have those miniature cars like the Shriners driving circles around each other, battery powered of course!

I have a question for all those non believers on Global Warming... Do you seriously believe that Since the Industrial revolution of the 1800s, that with all the crap that has been pumped into the atmosphere has had no effect on it?? The most destructive force this earth has ever seen is Western Man, the first species to change their enviornment to suit their needs, all other species of man before then lived in harmony with nature taking only what they needed to survive. Oh by the way another oil rig in the Gulf exploded today hmm do you think its time to get off oil and start searching for a new source of energy ??

You are correct that Sherlock holmes didnt exist in reality, Maybe I should have put a disclaimer to restate the painfully obvious. Are you one of those people that gets pissed off if a new iron doesnt have a "Do not use in the shower" sticker on it?
You are incorrect in saying that his world is not based on the laws of reality. (unless you are talking about the movie). The books were fiction, not fantasy.
I said that you disprove all alternatives and must accept the thing that is left. You denied that saying you have to show evidence that the last is correct. I submit that the impossibility of all alternatives IS evidence that the last possibilty is correct. (Google "Occam's Razor some time). If the last alternative isnt correct, it only means that ALL others weren't considered which eliminates the first premise and sends you back to the old drawing board.

As for the subject changing to creationism....where did that come from. That belongs on another topic.
