A perfect description of  voter frustration:

"Democrats' only hope this fall is to resist that and instead convince voters they'd get a worse deal with Republicans."

According to StrangerThans article Lucys cartoon better represents the Democrats strategy:

quote:

"Things are looking so bad for Democrats that their only hope is to come out early and simply disqualify the Republican," said University of Wisconsin political scientist Ken Goldstein, who studies political advertising.

Another interesting Democrat strategy - this, from Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D) SD:

Run against Obama, Reid and Pelosi.

quote:

"In Washington, they call this flyover country," says Sandlin as a view from a passing plane is shown. "They look down from 30,000 feet and don't care about our agriculture, the Second Amendment or our fiscally conservative values."

Sandlin add that she took on "liberal leaders" to protect South Dakotans' gun rights and "fought people in both parties who want to just throw money away."

The message is crystal clear: I am not one of them, I am one of you. (The "them" of course can be equally applied to her own party as Republicans.) Put another way, Sandlin is making an empathy argument: You know me and I know you so whatever you think of Washington, that's not me. Every image (and word) in the ad is aimed at playing up that idea -- from the fact that it is shot in South Dakota to the fact she is referred to as simply "Stephanie". Just in case you missed that message, Sandlin closes the ad with this line: "No matter which party's in charge, I do what's right for South Dakota."

Your conclusion is not supported by either the video or the article.

cuckoldmepls -> RE: Democratic strategies (9/3/2010 8:02:01 AM)

We all know what the democratic strategy is which is to cater to every little splinter group in the country by handing out taxpayer money or promoting their social agenda. To hell with the silent majority. They have been doing this ever since they created Social Security, and to be honest, it is the only way they can win. What do you think the cash for klunkers program was? It was just another attempt to buy votes with taxpayer money. For myself, it makes me seething mad that my neighbor was able to put about $4,000 in his pocket thanks to me and I received absolutely nothing for it.

What's amazing is that there are just enough hard core senior citizen democrats who have hated republicans all their lives that they don't care what the democratic agenda is any more even if it is anti American.

As far as the short term democratic strategy goes in upcoming elections. Basically, their goal is to blame everything on Bush, and claim that the only alternative is to go back to Bush policies. Well Bush policies didn't cause this recession. Congress did by making credit too easy to obtain and not requiring down payments which would have proven that someone could actually afford to buy a home. By the way, Congress is still refusing to tighten credit restrictions in the fannie mae and freddie mac agencies. Well Americans aren't buying it. The black unemployment rate is over 16% and the true unemployment rate of all Americans is well over 10%. You simply can't spend your way to prosperity when you are already in debt. Americans are waking up. Big government is the problem, not the answer, and everything they have been doing is getting us in deeper and deeper.

what a great thread. Another great post by a very wise poster.

DomYngBlk -> RE: Democratic strategies (9/3/2010 8:12:44 AM)

By splinter group do you mean the tea party, the birthers, guns rights advocates, the christian right, wall street, oil companies, and the creationists? LOL

servantforuse -> RE: Democratic strategies (9/3/2010 8:48:30 AM)

Obama is toxic to dems up for election this November. Our own ultra liberal Russ Feingold, will be to busy to greet the president for his Labor Day visit to Milwaukee.

LOL, it's that time again! The Democrats are starting to *panic!*
This mid-term election promises to be an epic "smackdown" for them and they know it.
They'll be making every wide-eyed promise known to man in the next two months!

Analysts: White House Panicking Over Elections

(CBS)  With many polls indicating the Republicans may win back control of the House of Representatives (and possibly the Senate as well) in the upcoming mid-term elections, Jim VandeHei, the executive editor of Politico, told CBS' "Face the Nation" that the Obama administration is in a horrible position.

"Does the White House understand this?" asked guest host Harry Smith. "Do you feel any sense of panic or concern" on the part of the administration?

"They get it. There's panic. There's concern," VandeHei said. "The reality for this administration stinks, politically and practically, when it comes to the economy. You're not going to be able to change that 9.6-percent unemployment figure. You can't get anything from Congress in the next couple of months."

CBS Congressional correspondent Nancy Cordes said the Democrats are distancing themselves from President Obama.

"Not only are they running away from President Obama, they're running away from being Democrats in some cases. In some races you actually see the Democratic candidates not really mentioning that they're a Democrat in their campaign ads," Cordes said.

I don't think driving the bus over the cliff is a valid strategy, but I give the Dems credit for trying...

servantforuse -> RE: Democratic strategies (9/5/2010 7:47:11 PM)

If they do drive the bus ver the cliff, maybe Obama will be in it/
