Some states suing to toss out President Barack Obama's health care overhaul law are also lining up to claim a share of its subsidies for the medical costs of retired employees.

An administration official said Tuesday seven states suing the federal government are among 16 already approved for subsidies to help with the health care costs of early retirees. The seven are Arizona, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Nebraska and Nevada. The official spoke on condition of anonymity ahead of Tuesday's official announcement.

I'm really not versed in the Obama health care plan. Neither have I heard anything relating to states suing in re that plan, or program. So this is really an uniformed and broad response and I admit that openly.

If the plan is mandatory then are not all states subject to its requirements and provisions until such time as any suits have been fully adjudicated AND they have been released or excluded from the plan with specificity? IF that is the case I see no issue or conflict in pursuing both courses of action while the litigation is pending.

No.

The program in question is one where any organization with obligations for medical insurance for retireees can apply for a federal subsidy to offset those costs. It's not just for governments and isn't even primarily intended for state and local governments but more for companies like GM.

Dont count on it. Pawlenty's executive order is another salvo against Obamacare. With the House in GOP control and many governors attacking it, this isnt blowing over anytime soon.

Theres no shame if you look at it logically. Say a mugger (the federal government in this case) is on a street corner handing out some of the money hes stolen from you previously then whats the matter with taking some of it back if you can.

Florida voters can't strip down Obama health-care bill, judge

The Florida Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected a ballot initiative that sought to amend the state’s constitution to establish that Florida residents have a right to refuse to purchase mandatory health insurance – including under President Obama’s reform effort.

The state high court voted 5 to 2 to exclude the referendum issue from the November ballot.

The action is a victory for supporters of the Obama health reform program and a setback for opponents, including state lawyers leading an effort in federal court in the Florida panhandle to have the national health insurance program declared unconstitutional.

Florida was slated to be one of four states voting in November on constitutional amendments barring forced participation in a health insurance program. The three remaining states are Arizona, Oklahoma, and Colorado.
