I think flexible is the key word here.

What is going on lately with all the gender sexuality issues?

The threads are all interconnected-Akasha's thread sparked this one which sparked the one in General which sparked LaT's one-they're all covering slightly different issues.

I really, really, really wish I hadn't brought this up. It seems to have generated nothing but bad feeling. Sorry, everyone-I honestly didn't see that coming; I don't deliberately start threads to cause trouble.

You kids just don't see the bright side, do you.

I'd prefer it if you didn't feel that way.

You wanted to discuss something that made you think and want to explore those thoughts on it.  There's nothing wrong with wondering what other people thought of the subject, too.  You are no more responsible for other people's responses and how those responses may have been linked to certain feelings by third parties than you are responsible if it rains in London today or not.

It's a topic that people are going to have different opinions on.  Hopefully, opinions that provide the opportunity to express their feelings one way or another on the subject.  If we all felt the same about everything, we'd get kind of bored with one another.

Does this mean it's time for a Group Hug?

It's not all bad. Everyone who posted into one of these threads got a reply of reassurance from someone else. (The "I totally understand where you're coming from." type.)

So the way I see it, everyone who posted got validated to a certain degree and it worked out fine. After all, people just want to be understood.

So now we can feel good about it.

That's my "look on the bright side" attempt at making everyone feel better! [:)]

Well, yes and no-you know how every time someone starts a fat thread or a pro-domme thread or a definitions of slavery thread you roll your eyes and think 'why are you doing this?' (or at least, I do)? Clearly this is also a hot-button topic like them, and I probably should have anticipated that.

Never mind [:)]

LaTigresse -> RE: An intolerance I *didn't know I had*... (9/9/2010 4:12:13 AM)

Oh heavens........wait until there is another fat thread, or some sort of 'poooooor subly woman is not good enough for big bad evil dominant man' thread. The sub brigade will go on about what a putz the guy is. How terrible he is for hating on fat chicks, or whatever the fault of the moment is........and some evil, sadistic person......[:D], will be more than happy to provide a link to this, or the bi-dom thread, and rub their noses in it.

Aynne88 -> RE: An intolerance I *didn't know I had*... (9/9/2010 4:29:48 AM)

Well I am once again glad for my lack of any sig lines denoting my membership in any brigades, cliques, posses, or the like. I tend to not run in packs, thank god.

Good morning LaT. I don't want my nose rubbed in anything though, maybe just some good colombian. Coffee that is. [;)].

Two different things entirely, in My opinion.  I didn't really see this as you complaining about other people, but rather inner reflection and if anyone else felt that way.  Heck, I'm probably one of the monosexuals that you describe and it didn't get My panties in a twist.  It also wasn't something that's been asked six thousand times before or something trivial for attention whoring just for the sake of starting a thread.  People were obviously interested in it, as you got a number of in-depth responses.

If all we can ever talk about are things that nobody will have passionate replies for, we might as well hang this thing up.

Jeffff -> RE: An intolerance I *didn't know I had*... (9/9/2010 7:37:11 AM)

As often happens, I agree with LP.

I was not offended, insulted, or even really bothered by this thread.

However, I may not be the best barometer for such things.

Well I'm glad it didn't upset you or Floofy, but (much as I hate to pull the 'people are agreeing with me in secret!' card) I've had emails from a dozen or so people of various sexualities that this bunch of threads *has* upset. And I'm not talking about people I would consider oversensitive here.

I just don't like upsetting people unintentionally. Oh well. It's given me a lot to think about, anyway.

Jeffff -> RE: An intolerance I *didn't know I had*... (9/9/2010 11:08:44 AM)

I am mono-maniacally sexual if that helps.

Tell your mum

VC, in your OP you say that you feel YOU might be close-minded on the issue, albeit your viewpoint on it is more liberal, it's still an issue of orientation. It's possible you are equating close-mindedness with orientation without realizing it or just being too hard on yourself.

And, by the way, I wouldn't worry about making this thread, I found it insightful and thought-provoking. When you start making threads about how all the other threads are rude or how you think the internet should be self-affirming and everyone should believe what you do, then you should worry.

Oh, I hope you did not mistake my opening line as a complaint here, on the contrary, any thread you start is fine in my book. It was more of a comment on similar threads.

I am not offended and I do not believe most of the people on the thread are offended. We can all question and contribute and agree and disagree.

If people were privately emailing you to complain about how much this thread "hurt" them, then they have issues far beyond this discussion.

I value intellectual discussion and you always provide that, in spades. [;)]
