Well, I have a cat that appears to suit me, an odd ball cat, but I do wonder at it's motives. The cat has a thing for habiating my stuff, the things I take interest in. For instance, I open my toolbox and leave it open, I go away and come back only to see my cat has taken up residence in my toolbox, hardly comfortable, but the cat is in there asleep. I open my camera case, turnmy back for a few minutes and the cat is in there snuggling down.My chemical cupboard, leave it open and the cat is in there settin up home, although that has come to an end, as the cat now stinks of chemicals.

So, what is it with cats, ?

Cats are cats, at night if I sleep bow legged with the blanket over me he will snuggle in the crater between my knees.

My grandmother had a cat who hadn't learned how to play nice, lived outdoors and thought "playing" meant clawing and biting me.

Sadistic cat.

Aneirin, he's liking the places you have just been.  It's a form of affection.

i really want to sum it up in two rules, but i'm not convinced that these are exactly right:

1) cats are contrary
2) cats are attention sluts

put the two together, and they want to impose themselves between you and your other loves 1) because its one of the best places to get attention and 2) because it will reassure them that you love them MORE if/when you allow them to be obstructive.... except that they will not themselves wake up to acknowledge this. They'll just register it unconsciously and go on sleeping in your tool box or whatever.

Mine curl up on books when I'm trying to read. I don't even try to fight it any longer.

Nothing odd about your kitteh at all....cats sleep wherever they want...Squeaks is about 5 pounds too big for the baskets on my bookshelf, but she plops her butt in them every day to sleep.  Boo sleeps in the cupboard over the refrigerator, Smooch in the clothes hamper.  It seems like the bigger the cat, the smaller the bed......

It's actually a good thing that your kitteh is doing that....as Steven said, that means she loves ya, and you're part of her family.  The hired help part, but hey, it's a cat.  Dogs have family, cats have staff!

Mine have to follow me to the bathroom...all I want is a moments peace and quiet to do my business and get out.
Just because I'm sitting down (on the lav) doesn't mean it's time to jump on my lap.
A shut door leads to kitten yelling, presumably to tell me the door is shut and scratched paint work.

Mine slides her paw under the door..kind of like "Hey...what are you doing in there".

Yeah, what is it with cats and the bathroom?  I have never had a moment's privacy......and a closed door???!!  Oh, that's just not a no, but a HELL NO!  KB sticks his arm under it and tries to take it off the hinges......he's got some serious muscles in his arms.  Sounds like a SWAT team on the other side trying to take the door down.  Boo will come in and plop down and want me to give him scritches......and I had one kitteh who would get INTO the shower and play in the water while I was in there....the first time she did it, I had my eyes closed w/shampoo in my hair, her wet tail swiped my leg and I about had a friggin' cow!!!  and shampoo burns like a mother!  After that, I'd turn the shower on first, let her get in and play, and when she vacated it, get in and take my shower.

Right now, even as I type, Squeaks is in my arms, not satisfied to sit next to me.......typing while holding a 20 lb cat ain't easy!

I have a cat who has somehow got it into her head that a locked door can be opened by rolling around in front of it with one paw stuck between floor and door. If I watch from the other side, I just see the end of a paw, rotating round and around...

I think she must have accidently opened a door once by doing this (it was probably only pushed shut, but how would she know - she's a cat), and she has somehow convinced herself that it was the rolling around that made the difference. She'll spend ages rolling over and over by a locked door - it doesn't seem to bother her that it never works on properly locked doors.

I'd like to be able to see it as an example of human superiority that we don't get caught up in this sort of stoopid, but I know for a fact that guys continue to send pictures of their dicks to prospective mates on collarme regardless of the fact that it probably only worked for one guy, once, by accident, some years ago.

We're not so smart.

It's all attention seeking behavior designed to keep you focused on their furry lordships. My current feline also demands access at all times, whether I am using the facilities or taking a shower, bath, etc. A closed door starts a flurry of activity and when he started pushing open the bottom of the front screen, a cardboard box was added as a partition. (I live on a busy street and cannot let him outside to wander). He tries to destroy the cardboard or jump over it, especially if I am outside. Trying to take out the trash or do laundry brings a cacophony of yeowls and protests about the general unfairness of his treatment. He wakes early to be fed and wakes the humans by grooming our hair & face or sitting on one's chest.

So why keep the little bugger? Because he is so adorable and affectionate and playful, when not being a pain in the ass.

The real difference between cats and dogs:
A dog looks at humans and thinks, yanno, these people are so nice to me; they give me food and lovin' and a warm dry place to sleep. They must be gods!
A cat looks at the same humans and thinks, yanno, these people are so nice to me; the give me food and lovin' and a warm dry place to sleep. I must be a god!

I have to admit I was never a cat person, in fact i hated them. However I recently found myself in a living situation with a 28 pound Siamese that has a bit in common with me, were both mean as hell. For some reason we've come from hating each other to him sleeping in my bed every night and following me through the house meowing

No place is as wonderful for a cat as the place you have just been, unless it's the place you are just about to be!
With 8 of them in residence I could sit here for days going on about the vagaries of my cats...but I won't! Though I will tell about Stinky Pete. Stinky isn't smelly himself, he just thinks that any smell generated me is the greatest thing in the Universe...especially when I'm doing my business, or if I've just come in from outside and I'm hot, sweaty and smelly.

His mostest favoritest thing to do when I'm sitting on the throne unable to move, is to get into my jeans as they sit around my ankles (I go commando, so no undies in the way) and (try to) go to sleep! Fifteen pounds of large black furry cat is a bit much!

At least he serves a purpose...if I think I can get away without taking a shower before going somewhere, I go near him. If he gets that rapturous look on his face, I jump into the shower!

I have two fixed female dogs and a tom cat. Dogs are man's best friend, right? Let mine lose and turn your back, GONE! Cats are independent, right? Mine is up my butt following me everywhere, I mean 5 mile walks, as I do not drive. He tries to get into electric boxes  and HVACR equipment I am working on, my tool box, etc. bathroom, shower, sleeps in the sink, loves water. He talks to me too. BTW both dogs hate water and one has webbed feet.

Your cat wants to get in your pants?

Yes. They enjoy doing this while you're sitting on the throne, panties or no..

Ok, that -was- supposed to be a cute pic of an orange kitten sitting in a pair of pants, but this is the 2nd time today I've tried to add a pic and it hasn't worked - takes the cuteness right out, I tell ya..

When I was younger, I had one cat that would do that creepy "well, lemme collapse mah bones" thing and squeeze under the door to get into the bathroom when I was having a bath. And he would perch on the edge of the toilet seat and just stare at me. Creepy fucker.
