DCWoody -> The USA (9/3/2010 6:38:49 PM)

The USA declared independance as a confederation of separate sovereign states, a few years later states inability to agree to share payment of war debt lead to the creation of a strong central government, sovereign over all states. With the primary objective early on being to finance the military, this enabled the capture/purchase/whatever of the best part of the north american continent, making the usa of today probably the land-richest nation on the planet....certainly for its relatively low population. So definitely a move that worked out well for ya....however, looking at the usa as it is today:

Would USAicans like the us to be a single nation ruled by a president and national congress, or an economic & military alliance of sovereign states?

Could I get a translation from DCWoody to American English, please?

DCWoody -> RE: The USA (9/3/2010 8:14:56 PM)

When the 13 Patriotic Colonies allied together, stood alone against, and defeated, the oppresive British Empire, they wrote The Constitution and became the federal USA in order to form a strong army. The USA Military promptly kicked Spanish, French, British, Canadian, and Mexican ass to fulfill Americas Manifest Destiny. Later going on to Save The World from Hitler in DubyaDubyas 1 & 2, Stalin in the Cold War, and Al-Qaeda in the War on Terror.

But, as the Libtards/Republicunts* keep winning the presidency and fucking everything up, would ya like the USA to remain run by the Fed/Banksters/Jews/NWO*, or to merely be an alliance of the 50 individual separate states?

*delete as appropriate

Badmanbad -> RE: The USA (9/3/2010 8:47:41 PM)

Personally, I do not see the United States existing in 100 years, at least not in its current form.  The trend seems to be toward smaller sovereign states being formed from larger states falling apart (i.e., Czech Republic and Slovakia formed from Czechoslovakia, numerous Balkan states formed from the breakup of Yugoslavia) based on cultural similarities and economic need.  I can see a day, quite easily, when the US divides itself into smaller nations based on shared culture and economic necessity.  I mean, for example, that New Hampshire has very little in common, economically or culturally, with California, and there could possibly come a day when New Hampshire decides in its own best interests to separate itself from California politically, perhaps allying with Vermont and Maine to form "The Republic of There's Nothing Here."

Whether this will be done peaceably or not remains to be seen.

Both, as originally envisioned by the founders.

Owner59 -> RE: The USA (9/4/2010 6:58:21 AM)

One of the 1st uses of the military was to quash tax protesters and make them pay, at gun point.

Washington made it clear who was in charge in spite of what NRA nuts think.

DCWoody -> RE: The USA (9/4/2010 7:21:18 AM)

@willbe, an answer that makes as much sense as usual, well done.

@Owner, by my understanding that was the whole point of the fed in the early days, ya had national debt needing paying...

pahunkboy -> RE: The USA (9/4/2010 8:52:57 AM)

Woody-  LOL.

You sound like me.     Stop all this crazy talk.   STOMP.   hehe

Owner59 -> RE: The USA (9/4/2010 8:57:48 AM)

Well, not the whole point.But they made it clear who had the power to tax.And who controlled the "militia".

I don`t think the Founding Fathers thought they weren`t making something that didn`t suck.It just sucks a lot less than most other places.

Lincoln,father of the GOP, also made it clear who was in charge.

How and why do you believe language as highlighted above brings anyone closer to solution? In my opinion it is more divisive that it is anything else.

Owner59 -> RE: The USA (9/4/2010 9:20:57 AM)

Solution to/of what?

pahunkboy -> RE: The USA (9/4/2010 10:59:04 AM)

We are nothing but solutions in search of a problem.

Owner, The People are the militia. Technically any three people can constitute a "Militia."
Why do you guys on the left want to "control" everything?

Owner59 -> RE: The USA (9/4/2010 3:59:05 PM)

Control what?

I`m just reading history...

The people I see losing composer and all angst up are older Christian white male conservatives.

Not you tho Pop,you don`t even know who glen beck is......[8|]

Aneirin -> RE: The USA (9/4/2010 5:56:16 PM)

The founding fathers might have had a good idea that they wrote down as the constitution, but times have changed, how good is that constitution now ?

But regarding the founding fathers, did they ever envisage the US becoming a world leader and super power?

In which case is their constitution up to the job of governing such ?

Is the US constitution out of date in this modern world, or is it there to check what the US without might come to be ?
