Do you stock up on TP/paper products?

(for running a household)

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Do you stock up on TP/paper products? (9/4/2010 10:07:54 AM)

Oh HUnky!! My uncle (grandma's brother, who was in this country for the depression) used to be MR PAPER GUY! Partly because paper was light to carry back from the store, partly Just Because. We asked him, Zio, isn't there enough already, but he would say, "you never know if it will be at this price!".

We used to have LOTS of basement floods in Detroit in the old days, and one year you guessed it!! A foot of water in the basement and MUCH paper gone the way of all things! He was FURIOUS! But we told him that the paper kept the water level in the basement lower by absorbing it!!

I stock up a bit but not over the top. about 4 times a year I order my foodshopping to get delivered home, so i simply by a few boxes to make sure I have plenty here until the next time...so thats only 4-5 bags of it, not more.

tropicalhoney -> RE: Do you stock up on TP/paper products? (9/4/2010 12:28:31 PM)

I stock up during hurricane season cuz you just don't know what will happen, and, unlike No Impact Man and his wife, I have no desire whatsoever to go back to using cloth!

poise -> RE: Do you stock up on TP/paper products? (9/4/2010 12:31:20 PM)

No...but hopefully one day I will learn to. It seems the one thing I always run out of....just when its needed the most.[8D]

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Do you stock up on TP/paper products? (9/4/2010 12:41:39 PM)

Oh dear heavens No Impact Man was using CLOTH????

And of course sanitzing that cloth has no impact whatsoever. [8|]

We don't tend to run out of stuff here, but we do have a large house with a basement, so we CAN stock up when there's a sale.

TribeTziyon -> RE: Do you stock up on TP/paper products? (9/4/2010 2:15:29 PM)

If certain things are at a good price I will get them. Small household here, so no need to be that worried.

pahunkboy -> RE: Do you stock up on TP/paper products? (9/4/2010 2:25:51 PM)

I stock up a bit- but I do not go crazy on it.

sirsholly -> RE: Do you stock up on TP/paper products? (9/4/2010 3:09:12 PM)

I got sick of running out of toilet paper so now we all wear diapers.

wa?

BKSir -> RE: Do you stock up on TP/paper products? (9/4/2010 3:12:52 PM)

Paper goods, food, dry goods, meats, canned goods.... everything. I LOVE case lot sales! I believe that one should always have 3 months worth of backup, just in case. One never knows if one will lose ones job and have no monetary influx for a while.

EDIT: To add... As far as toilet paper and such, better to have too much. It's not like it will go bad, and it's something one always needs. And, better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

mercifulsiren -> RE: Do you stock up on TP/paper products? (9/4/2010 7:41:02 PM)

I agree with BKSir. I always have extra stuff around for that same reason.

DesFIP -> RE: Do you stock up on TP/paper products? (9/4/2010 8:10:46 PM)

Unfortunately not as I'm out of paper towels.

LaTigresse -> RE: Do you stock up on TP/paper products? (9/4/2010 8:26:41 PM)

I am not sure what 'stocking up' is.

Try to never below the two roll level on TP and try to keep one extra roll of paper towels around. I don't get paranoid about stocking stuff.

I used to get nervous if I didn't have full cupboards and deep freeze but now, with no kids living at home, not so much so.

littlewonder -> RE: Do you stock up on TP/paper products? (9/4/2010 8:30:23 PM)

I'm a minimalist. I stock up on very few things so my answer is no I don't.

bellesoumise -> RE: Do you stock up on TP/paper products? (9/4/2010 8:46:50 PM)

I stock up because if I don't, I will forget. I do not want to wake up at 2am and theres no tp.

Belle... You are BEAUTIFUL!!!  [sm=hearts.gif]   *just.... wow*  [:)]

I used to stock up on things a little when I was married and had a ginormous house.  My space is limited now, so no.

"A single pair of underwear contains, on average, one-tenth to 10 grams (!?!) of fecal matter containing, among other things, the rotavirus, which causes diarrhea, and the hepatitis virus. [I hope that 10 grams was in a diaper.] Washing underwear with other clothes simply distributes the fecal matter through the load. Infection from this matter most likely occurs while the clothes are being moved from the washer to the dryer; the dryer usually kills the harmful substances. Bleach helps kill the bacteria and viruses in the wash; so does disinfecting the washing machine by running an empty load of just detergent and bleach. In about 50% of homes studied, fecal matter was found in family washing machines. No studies have been done on laundromats."

"In New York city, bacteria found in fecal matter were identified on the screen of an automated bank machine, the back of a taxi cab, and on a headset in a 3D movie theater. Flesh-eating bacteria were found on the mouthpiece of a pay phone. On a movie theater seat, researchers found vaginal bacteria."

"There are 120 viruses, including Hepatitis A, that live in feces. When you flush the toilet, water droplets containing more than 25,000 virus particles and 600,000 bacteria fly from the bowl, hover for a few hours, then finally land on surfaces as far away as six feet. Closing the toilet lid won't help, the next time it's opened, a cloud of virus-carrying water particles will burst out. (Toothbrushes are a common target of this vapor.) For a truly clean toilet, regular disinfectants won't do, so you will have to spray lab alcohol in the bowl and light it. A flambeed toilet bowl is guaranteed to be bug free for at least one flush! (Do not try this with a plastic bowl.)

The lowdown and dirty on women's restrooms: public women's restrooms are twice as germ-laden as men's. Women spend more time in the bathroom, and also bring in children, who are mobile bacterial hot zones. The dirtiest places are, in order: exterior of the sanitary napkin disposal bin; the floor around the toilet; the sink and taps; the toilet seat; the flush handle. 48% of women line the toilet seat with either the paper seat covers or toilet paper. American women use the most toilet paper in the world - seven sheets per visit (I feel like a horrible spendthrift, having clocked myself at an extravagant 18) - while the British come in second - 3.9 sheets per visit. The middle stall in a public bathroom is usually the most contaminated, while the first is the least contaminated.

I use a long hose with a high-pressure shower massage head for cleaning. TP just spreads fecal matter around. I avoid public restrooms like the plagues that they are; if I'm on a rare road trip, I'll pull off on a low-traffic exit and piss on the side of the entrance ramp, obscured by my car. If I absolutely must use a public rest room for urination, I use a paper towel to turn the faucet off and open the door. I carry alcohol wipes in my car.

People are scummy pigs.

I stock up on paper and cleaning products, because I buy them online in bulk every few months. Mostly because I just like getting packages in the mail. It's like christmas.

CalifChick -> RE: Do you stock up on TP/paper products? (9/4/2010 9:19:37 PM)

I buy at a warehouse store.  I don't make an effort to stock up, I just buy the large package and when I'm down to a couple of rolls, I buy another package.
