It used to be an online thing that a Top named their sub when they collar them. Goreans still practice this with slaves.
And I see subs with handles here that allude to not having a name until given one.

My questions are::

Would you (or have you) legally change(d) your name if your Master/Mistress did so?
Or is it used only in the privacy of your own home/scene?
And at whose expense should it be, if it is to be changed?
How would you explain the name change to your family?

I have personally thought about legally changing my name to Nika. It is a nickname Phoenix gave me when I first meet him. Not many people including my family use my real name anymore and frankly if someone where to call me on the street by it I may not turn my head without thinking twice. *Laughs*

Would my family be upset if I changed my name legally. Perhaps my father named me Veronica because it had "roni" in it and to him it was his name of naming me after him but that is one thing I hate being called. *Shrugs*

In the end it would be my choice to do something such as change my name not my parents.

In the end that would be something Phoenix and myself would sit down discuss and decide upon. Though changing your name legally can be an expensive process.

When i was married, eons ago now..lol. i legally changed my last name to my new husband's. It didn't seem worth the effort to change my name back after the divorce almost 30 years later. i also had a kidlet left in school and i thought it might hold down on some of the confustion 2 different last names would have.

I can't see changing my name again - legally or not. It's just not that big of a deal anymore.

when He and i get married i will legally change my name to His surname if He wishes it. He and i have different names for each other than our given names, and i would willingly change my first name to the one He calls me (which He actually had me choose for myself). my family already thinks i'm pretty odd, so i wouldn't have to do too much explaining of the name change, though i doubt they would consent to call me something different than what they do now.

He already knows who I am therefore there's no reason for me to change my name.

I would legally change my name if an owner ordered it.

Depends on the relationship. Pet names are used in all types of relationships, bdsm and Ms types have no exclusivity to that.

all My slaves names were legally changed at the same time their lifes were signed over and turned over to Me in a lifelong contract of commitment. Those slaves who are only serving in a 6 month or 1 or 5 year contract only use the name I give them in the home. Only slaves who have been given a lifetime commitment to concensual slave service are given a name which includes Mine. It just makes things of a legal nature so much simpler. Im the Dominant. I am the One who is in charge of finance and posessions. How those finances are made is up to Me to dictate. How those finances are spent is also up to Me to dictate. JMO

Oh! Right! The OP

I don't feel any particular need to change My slave's name, unless he's just hot to have a new name chosen by Me, in which case it would become a reward to be earned. I WILL chose a pet name for him, which only I and Mine will be permitted to call him, and which he will only be permitted to answer to if used by Me and Mine, but no others.
