Isn't there money left from the stimulus funds?
Isn't it possible to attempt to boost the nations economy by fixing the roads and crumbling highways, and building up the infrastructure to create jobs AND cut spending on other programs?

I don't think that fixing the roads, highways and building up infrastructure will be a long-term cure, but it is at least something.

At the end of the day, the citizens of the United States have been sold down the river by greedy corporations, unbridled outsourcing practices, policies and laws that don't favor the workers, and many other practices sanctioned by BOTH political parties, and it leaves us with a lack of jobs, especially jobs with any future.

Also, servant a lot of this crap started 30 years ago with Reagan.
I blame Reagan and many of his policies for the crap we are dealing with now.

Now the Republicans are saying we are dependent on businesses to create jobs for us?
What types of jobs will big business and small businesses create that could possibly get us out of the hole we are in?

When the economy was doing better 10, 20, and 30 years ago, corporations were running and taking most of the jobs to 3rd world countries so they could pay the workers $2 a day, instead of paying American workers a decent living wage.
Along with unbridled outsourcing practices, are these the businesses that will now save us?
Isn't it big business and unbridled corporate greed, including unbridled outsourcing practices that created this shit?

Unemployment is higher now than it was before we spent 800 billion in stimulus money. I guess is 800 billion didn't work so we'll throw another 50 billion at the problem. Where does it end ?

It doesn't end until the citizens demand big changes.
Like Popeye stated if we create any new jobs that are well paying, I bet most of them well be outsourced.

I would also appreciate it, if you addressed what I said about Reagan, and how unbridled corporate greed and outsourcing has been a major factor in propeling us towards the Depression, that is still coming our way.

I suppose it should be asked of Reagan, Bush 2 and all their sycophants, have they made their wealth, are they protected from recession by their wealth, if so they have succeeded in looking after themselves and their own, the people they need to maintain their status. The rest of the US, they don't care, probably never cared, you were used, it is as simple as that.

H'mm, capitalism, I wonder has it run it's course.

I was trying to remember the others off hand, but though I could picture the face, I could not remember the name, and I have actually shook hands with that one.

I have been blaming Reagan for over 25 years, lol.
Many just don't go far back enough to see when the cancer really began to spread.
I have been blaming Reagan for YEARS where have you been?

Address what I said about rampant corporate greed, and policies supporting them, unbridled outsourcing and how this has been a BIG factor in destroying our economy.

Out of the 67,000 jobs that have been recently "created", I am going to research what type of jobs they were.
I bet most of the new jobs that have been created are at Wal-Mart or McDonalds.

You need to get over it. The current administration is where you should set your sights. They are the ones running the country for the last 19 months. Reagan is dead and has been for quite some time.

I will never get "over" it.

Well when our country becomes a lot more Socialist in nature, you can thank Ronald Reagan, unbridled corporate greed, rampant outsourcing, and similiar policies.

People are only going to put up with things for so long.

The government is going to be doing a lot more to support, feed, take care of people, eventually including medical care, and the needs of the people are going to become greater, as the debt keeps getting higher.

Thank Ronald, as we march towards the inevitable, servant.
Shall we mourn the death of capitalism, as we know it, together?

The recession of 2008 should have taught everyone a valuable lesson as a result people should be very wary now, but I am hearing now the recession is supposedly over, people are going back to their old ways, and more so they are being encouraged to do so, completely nuts !

But we are told it is good for the country's economy, where in that is it good for the individual as we know large finance and government don't care about the individual, what happens to them and their dependants when shit hits the fan as it did in 2008.

My personal policy is a case of once bitten, twice shy and I was not a typical consumer then either, quite the reverse in fact, but what the crash taught me, was to look after my own and bollocks to the creators of the mayhem and their political sycophants, for they will never feel the conditions those of us at the bottom of the economic ladder feel when things fuck up.

Did the recession of 2008, end in the UK, matey?
When did it end?
Are things much better there now?

I don't believe for 1 minute it has ended here in the United States, at all.
If anything we are in a holding pattern, until things get better or worse.

Or at least start to gather the skills which will be of use when money is not around so much. I have no car, so gas is not a problem, locally I walk everywhere and there are some mean hills around here, other times I cycle or use public transport. It's a hassle, but it works. The purchasing of things, foodstuffs and the like, well I use a back pack for shopping, so over spending is fairly well out of the question as that extra one buys on a whim one has to carry it, perhaps shopping with a vehicle to carry is part reason for over spending.

My diet is more of an Asian diet, consisting of mostly rice, fish and seafood, rice is heavy, but it's cheap and goes a long way, fish and seafood, I collect myself, also mushrooms and other forgotten wild foods. Seaweed is my next venture with sea lettuce being one of the most nutritional plants on the planet.

Defence, well that is a problem, we can't have guns, knives or curved swords, but I have a bill hook and I am very proficient with a sling and can lob a half brick 250 yards with a high degree of accuracy, the terminal velocity of that brick makes it shatter on impact if it hits harder than itself. I believe I can defend myself if need be, but the best defence is not being seen in the first place, so hiding is the way.

I am I think, moving away from the consumerist, moving more towards what humans were supposed to be before we got herded and controlled into the machine that satisfies the few at the top.

I don't doubt there is going to be another financial disaster, it has happened too many times and always the poor suffer most, I am one of the poor and I know what is coming, so I study and practise skills that may very well be needed, but if they are not, then I can satisfy myself that I am not totally dependant on government and banks.

I love to read about how you manage in the world.
You are a very self-sufficient person, and that is no small feat.
People that are innovative like you, will always find or make a way!
Kudos to Anerin!

Anerin, in response to your question asking if Capitalism is dying?
I think Capitalism as we know it, will be coming to an end in the United States.
It will probably take 20-30 years, but it is on it's way out.
As more and more people are becoming dependent on the government to even live, I see
the role of government growing and growing.
Hopefully, we will end up with something similar and close to the
Canadian system of Capitalism/Socialism.

Issues like: health care, affordable housing, the growing number of the working poor that can't afford housing, food, or the basic necessities of life, and the huge numbers of unemployed and
underemployed are going to make certain things inevitable, its just a matter of time.

This is a great article explaining why Capitalism is dying a natural and a very s l o w death.

I blame both the republicans and the democrats for the state of the US economy. Republicans want the big businesses that are shipping jobs overseas to continue getting tax breaks. President Obama wants to create new jobs to compete in the global economy. What we need to do is get out of the global economy.

I'm assuming, from the rest of his statement that involved weapons of the middle ages, that he would be using a trebuchet.
