If you did, burning anyone's holy book could very well lead to violence, and that with justification dependant on how offended the party is by others actions of religious hatred towards them.

Status: offline 		And that radical element is just like the Christian radical element, both together mess things up for the majority of peace loving people of their own religion, the radicals actually create targets of their own side for the wrath of the other side which if left unchecked will cause peace loving tolerant people to become radicalised as a means of defence. How many unwarranted attacks or offences does it take to turn even the hardiest of peace lovers into what the other side expects of them.

Status: offline 		The Dove World Outreach Center....funny, that name doesn't give me images of radicals.  I think, Dove, peaceful, Outreach, caring and reaching to all....It's like hearing Papa Smurf did a drive by and took out a bunch of innocents at the Dairy Queen.

Status: offline 		Perhaps the US does need such a law as ours, a law against inciting religious intolerance, if you did that would make the holy book burners criminals and all that just because they don't like another religion's view of God, they would have themselves to blame, no one else, for the law is the law and it created for the safety and peaceful living of all US citizens.

I have doubts that this came from the FBI. If so it should be a locked PDF file, but it's not. However it is plausible enough for discussion.

Idolatry is idolatry, even in the reverse. This is supposedly forbidden for Jews and Christians, and as usual interpretation is the key. Not sure quite where the Catholics fit in there, there's as much idolatry there as in anything. They can't see that burning something as a symbol of even one's enemies is as wrong as elevating something of your own to idol status.

I also wonder just what these idiots hope to accomplish. I mean - WHY ? Do they think the religion will go away because they burned a few symbols ? A book is a book nothing more. I think with exceptions of course, many Jews have a handle on this like I do. If anyone wanted to burn the Koran it would be them, but I think they require at least half a brain or something and realize the it would do no good.

Things are bad, mostly due to the meddling of the US government in Arab affairs, and now people want to make it worse ? Are people that fucking stupid ? Perhaps that is a rhetorical question, we might already have the answer. Now there is a difference between sybolism and idolatry. If your dungeon burns down you might not be happy to lose the decorations, the St. Andrew's cross and all those wierd things you bought from Germany, Transylvania or whatever, but you don't mourn it as a sign from God. You don't cry, you start figuring out how to fill out the insurance forms with the minimum of outing yourself.

I am starting to figure out that most of the world is still living in medeival times, only the technology has changed.

Let's try the shoe on the other foot, what if Moslems came, broke in and destroyed the original Constitution ? Would that invalidate this country ? Of course we would be pissed but would it warrant killing all of their "kind" ? No, they would put the asshole in jail and throw away the key, I would think. Of course the President would cry on TV to make it look good but would he push the button ? Hell no, that would just drive oil prices even higher. That is because some people idolize the almighy buck more than anything else.

I believe the urge would be there though because save a few exceptions we are a very primitive species. And it's getting worse. As over population gets worse instead of cooperation we have more competition. This is natural - for animals. The fight over precious resources and such, when there simply is not enough to go around.

But this type pf bullshit is not even up to animalistic standards. Animals fight to survive. We fight because we simply don't like each other. Think of the fagbashers. What did homosexuals ever do to them ? You don't like how someone looks or acts, their beliefs, what they do in the privacy of their own homes ? What's next, forcing Moslems and Jews to eat pork because we think it's right and if they don't change their mind we will kill them ?

Of course that's preposterous, and I haven't heard of Moslems burning Talmuds or Bibles. What is this, a stupid contest ? It is starting to look that way. And what Moslem would consider building a mosque at ground zero ? That has to be symbolic in a way. As far as I know we are not talking about extremists here. What were they going to do in that mosque, celebrate taking prime NYC real estate away from their emeny bretheren the Jews and the greedy, decadent capitalist dogs of the west ? What's the fucking point of it ?

And now, as fair minded people on all sides of this issue try to get the point across that it is not the people who are at odds with one another for the most part, it is the governmants, there are those who would strive to overshadow that message with a show of hatred, by the PEOPLE.

Ridiculous is not the word, it is simply not strong enough. Stupid is not strong enough. We need a new adjective for these times. It takes the light twelve minutes to reach these people from stupid and ridiculous.

Status: offline 		I recall once listening to two gentleman talking at a forum once. The guy on the left, was a former KKK 'boss', and the man to his left (my right), was a Christian preacher who was black. They talked about a friendship that had its roots in violence, terror, and evil. That at one time, the boss guy, felt it was his duty to remove blacks from his area. So one day, the two meet at some resturant. The boss brought in his posse and all looking about as hateful as their leader. The preacher had some friends and children from the church for a nice lunch.....and they had just been served, roasted chicken (the whole bird, to which one carves pieces from). The boss guy tells the black preacher....

"Boy, how you interact with that chicken, is how we will interact with YOU."

So the preacher thought for a moment, picked up the whole bird, and kissed it, placing it down on the platter gently. The posse bursts out laughing and walks outside.

The point of this is.....when dealing with deep hatred, one could fight it head on, or simply redirect all that hatred towards something else. If this 'church' group shows up for their burning; why couldnt a mosque set up a 'Fire Prevention Day' for the public? Demonstrate the proper ways of dealing with fire (demostrating with fire extinquishers), exit points a family can use in the event of a fire, and even safety tips for kids (like not playing with matchs). The people from the mosque remain calm, peaceful, and simply ignore the ignorant racists. In the end, the community would have a more favorible opinion of the mosque, who did not let in to hatred, and a deeper embarassment of a church's members in their town.

I'm not saying this would be easy to do. It would be hard to do, but it would serve those of the Islamic faith, that they are not the extremist that church or conservatives, paint them to be. It would be a brave thing to do. But then, they do happen to be citizens of the United States of America. One thing us Americans tend to be, is brave; its in our National Anthem!

Status: offline 		While I don't agree with Petreaus about the potential to bring  additional harm towards the troops, or recruitment propaganda for Al Queda, the fundies already have all the recruitment material they need.

I do think this is a rather stupid idea, and that the Dove Outreach Center would just be asking for a firebombing during Sunday Mass.

Either way, it's a lose/lose situation, Al Queda will either claim outrage at the Infidels whom dare burn their holy book, or victory because the great Satan was scared by the might of the Jihad and canceled the burning..
