Just in time for school!  Here's an article on some of the myths and facts about learning.  It blew me away (I've tried all the stuff that doesn't work well!)

"The findings can help anyone, from a fourth grader doing long division to a retiree taking on a new language. But they directly contradict much of the common wisdom about good study habits, and they have not caught on.


For instance, instead of sticking to one study location, simply alternating the room where a person studies improves retention. So does studying distinct but related skills or concepts in one sitting, rather than focusing intensely on a single thing."

This is new? Really?

I thought that was common knowledge. My teachers at school tended to be big on classroom displacement-any excuse to get us sitting under a tree.

I can promise you that I have learned absolutely nothing while sitting under a tree because I was always engaged in shenanigans at the time.

I also wrote my homework in class, drew funny lines or simply meditated peacefully (aka nearly dozed off) while relying mostly on my subconscious to remember any relevant information and get good grades.

Since this thread is about schooling, i thought i would side track just long enough to post a site about a school backpack that has an alarm.

I was hoping the backpack alarm would go off if someone unauthorized opened it. Replacing stolen stuff gets expensive.

My school was so oppressive we were all blinking in unison, sitting under a tree would have been impossible since we barely had grass...damn concrete jungle. Our school was next to a graveyard though...

As for the backpack alarm that is a bit overkill, although many times in school someone would open someone else's backpack on the stairs so the next time they moved everything would come spilling out. So this may be a good idea but there are much worse things about school, much much worse 0_0

Hmm, when you go to college/university the blinking in unison part is left behind for a general non-caring approach.

I did briefly go to a catholic high school and that was ALOT of detentions!

I went to a public school in brooklyn, fdr high, it's so terrible they shut it down.

There was just this dank, stale air that lay stagnant in the hallway, it also didn't help that the principals speech to the freshman told them that 60 percent of them will not be sophomores...hooray for public education.

I've been to enough schools to know that it has nothing to do with private or public.

There will always be people who mess up the system and others who group up in whatever they think the best school is. In some places it might be a public school.

Don't mind me i'm just jaded, eventually I got a GED (Good Enough Diploma) and it was basically a reading test...so where was all that stuff they were trying to teach us in high school?

Then I get to college and they treat me like i'm a genius, I was in advanced classes and was allowed to drop some requirements. The system is just odd is all.

PS: I have been to private school as well, they spanked me for saying fuck, I was 5 and I swear to god I thought I invented that word.

The bookbag doesnt alarm when its opened. It alarms when a cord is pulled near the shoulder, typically pulled when a child is scared. In a dark parking lot, this would be great for teens or even college students. Bullying is terrible in schools, imagine that kind of alarm going off where a child cannot be seen.
