Anyone have tips on knifeplay sanitation / safety they care to share from experience?

Buy a steel knifes with a steel handle. This way you can clean them properly by first of all dish washing (machine) it and then in either an autoclave or steamer if you have scratched through the surface of the subs skin. Never use that same knife on another sub without it being thoroughly cleaned first. If its got a leather handle or fabric that is difficult to clean, only use that one knife for one particular sub. The weight of your knife is very important if you really want some good sensation play. Hold the knife at the tip of the handle and see how it feels. As you do this let the point rest on a cushion. How does that feel? is there a decent weight falling to the tip? This is how you will hold them and twist them on the subs back as you change the blades direction but it should never be with pressure. Its own weight will have the desired and almost unbearable effect. Two identical knives of equal weight are good. This way you can mirror the effect with both hands. I use sharp knives but I don't cut with them. The sub knows they are sharp but I will use the back and the point of the knife for sensation. I may let her think I am inserting the knife but I will only really be using the blunt metal handle. You can heat the knives up or cool the knives down too.

Pet- I have heard a theory of dull vs. sharp knives. You can apply more pressure with a dull knive, but if you do cut it's worse than with a sharp knife. AllThatJaz- Thank you for the tips! Very much appreciated, the heating up / cooling off is a wonderful idea. I looked at the (your?) website on your profile. Beautiful brandings, lovely site. If you come to check back on the post can you tell me a little about the skin stapler? I have never seen these used in kink before.

I think Maria pretty much covered what I would have said about knife safety. It really is like any other toy that has potential to break the skin. I don't do much knife play with anyone but clip these days, unless I'm combining it with wax play. (I'm big on using a knife to remove the wax.) With that use in mind, I tend to use a dull blade. You don't really need sharp to remove wax. For cuttings, I tend to use a scalpel. On clip, I'll use the regular one with the disposable blades. For anyone else, I just use the disposable scalpel. Surgical staples are quite a bit of fun and they couldn't be easier. The disposable guns that I have are pre-loaded with (I believe) 25 staples. Simply hold the gun against the skin and squeeze the trigger. From there, you can get creative with ribbon or feathers or anything else you'd like to 'decorate' someone with. If I can figure out how to upload a pic on the thread, I'll put one up from staples and ribbon that we did My initials.

Staples are really not a painful thing and like Lady Pact says, they can be used for attaching some wonderful decorations to the skin. The only other thing I would warn about with disposable staple guns is, the outside of the gun will become contaminated with aerosoled blood (Blood plume possibly invisible to the naked eye) and so one gun to one person should be the rule of thumb. Our guns have 35 staples and include newer design of staple remover.
