Does anyone here belly dance and have any information about it?  I have been dancing for some time now, but really want to go all out with it and perform for my dom.  Does anyone have information where to get a good costume (cheaply, perferably lol), accessories, or just tips and tricks to make the dance better.  Information about good music to dance to would also be highly appriciated.  Thanks for any help.

Hmmmmmmmmm ...... perhaps you could do a photo shoot with this =]

I belly dance as well, but the costume did not come cheap. I got my dancing belt .. the one with the coins .. at an East Indian store, and it was about $100. I made my own veils from fabric from the remnant box at the fabric store, and hand-sewed the sparkly trim. The shoes I wear [else I go barefoot] are ballet-type slippers.

A note about costumes .. the ones from costume stores are not made for dancing ... they are for the Stand&Modellers <grin> and may fall apart with heavy use.

Hope this helps too =)))

Good Evening Sweet........

I dance for a number of years and I found stuff everywhere and anywhere - thrift stores, bead shops and my greatest finds were at a bellydancer's yard sale LOL - if you are a little creative and have access to a sewing machine you can easily make a simple skirt or veil.

If you or anyone else is interested I have cabaret costumes I no longer use that are just sitting around - I've hated to part with them but as the years have gone by its less and less likely they are going to fit me again :(  My cherished piece is a costome direct of Egypt that a friend obtained for me.

Keep Dancing!!! and I'm sure your Master will enjoy your efforts :)

Mystery

P.S.  feel free to email me for more info if you like

I did a few table dances at an amature night at a local strip club where a friend of mine works.

Does that count?

I belly dance and some of my classmates have been able to pick up their hips scarves and a few other costume parts at good prices on ebay. This is one of my favorite online sources. They have items in a variety of price ranges. http://www.moondancebellydance.com/

You are kidding? Some of you actually bellydance?  I used to do that... was forced to stop and I miss it soooo sooo much. Me and a friend was just talking(this evening) about going back.

I tend to agree with you the costume does not come cheap if you want it to hold up. The coin scarf could run you from $35-110, the way I learned we danced barefoot (so we didn't need to buy shoes). When we had an occasion to dance in shoes it was weird, didn't feel natural. But there are so many different styles and some do wear shoes. Veils are easy to make from remnants of sheer fabric but beware you will need about 5-6 feet so that it flows nicely. Then you need zils/cymbals to put on your fingers if you want to add that into your dance. Don't forget that sexXxy (heavy) coin bra. *giggling* Oh the memories of dancing. But as mentioned the ones from those costume stores are NOT made to withstand  dancing.

Ebay is a wonderful place to get costumes and such ... You might also try Etsy ... Its like ebay except that its more specialized to artists, people who make handicrafts, clothes, etc ... You can special request items according to your needs and desires.  http://etsy.com/

My girl tinkerbell{KH} is learning to belly dance. I bought her a 4 disc set called Bellydance for Beginners with Suhaila by Naturaljourneys on Amazon.com for about $30. I also bought her Striptease For Real Women formerly known as The Art Of Sensual Dance For Every Body by Susan Bremer on Amazon.com. As For Affordable Costumes My girl jezabel{KH} has a ebay store that sells complete belly dancer outfits, harem pants, coin tops and etc, the ebay bids start at $3 up to $49.50 check out the link below.  I really enjoy Belly Dance and hope that you enjoy your journey to learning.

I recently ordered a bellydance dvd, last week to be exact, for exercise purpose and because I always wanted to learn how to do it.  Like others mentioned, Ebay is an exellent source for finding great costume buys.  I purchased some exotic items dirt cheap just last year, wish I could remember the sellers name to be more helpful, but you easily type in what you are looking for in ebays search area to find most anything you seek.

Master sent me to a belly dance class a long time ago but because of schedule changes I had to stop.  I just learned where there is a class near me again so I'd like to go back...maybe surprise him and learn it and then just perform one day.  Hard to do a surprise like that though, since he always knows where I am , lol.  But I loved the dance, the music, the sultry moves....It's just beautiful.

Check with some local community centers.  I know in my area there are free classes or cheap classes all over the place.  You can also rent how to DVD's.

Re costumes I agree that ebay would be a great idea.

Sue is a dear friend of mine and while she won't give you a discount if you mention me, she will regale you with stories about what an arrogant irritating pompous ass I can be.

Annndddddd for any kajirae or submissives (even Mistresses if they want ) who live in near us in Queensland, Australia, I just happen to have a lass who is a close friend of ours who both belly dances and teaches it to advanced levels too ..

I've found that Ebay is great when it comes to belly dance. Nicholman has wonderful hand beaded costumes that are to die for, listen on Ebay.  I dance professionally and all of my costuming things I found on Ebay or when our school had retailers in as invited guests.

If your wanting to learn how to dance, I'd suggest a class, from a school that offers different types of dance.  Mine offers Tribal, regular belly dance, Hindu and hula.

I actually suggest a school, like the one I went to, as that way you have a variety of dance styles to choose from as you become more advanced, also they will typically have a studio or troupe that is paid to proform and then you possibly could be hired on .

Edited because it just dawned on me that the link to my troupe sells video's with me on them...
