LanceHughes -> 3 NON-random questions aiming to break the ice... (9/9/2010 6:45:12 AM)

Here's the set-up:

You're at a munch.  A friend introduces you to a person of your desired gender, orientation and sub/Dom-iness....  That is, in my instance, a friend at a munch introduces me to a gay, male, sub.

Said friend disappears.

What are three questions you might use to keep the conversation going?  One at a time, of course......

Subs - do NOT assume "you may not speak until spoken to."  Sometimes Doms are quiet and reserved, looking for a person a little more out-going than they are. Opposites attract, y'know?

For example:

1. "What brings you here on this fine Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter afternoon/evening?"  (Especially good if weather is crappy and you emphasize "fine.")
2. "How do you know _____mutual friend_____ ?"
3. "How long have you lived in _____city of munch_____?"
Bonus question:
4. "How did you find out about this munch?"

Hmmm. Lessee.

Hey, you're pretty attractive. You know, if you don't think I'm too old or fat or ugly, I bet I'd be perfect for you.

That's all I got. That's all I need. Everything else is trite and bogus.

Jeff, who rarely goes to munches for JUST this reason

Asking about something you see around you is convenient!

Considering a munch is a place to meet new people and that compatible people are not that hard to talk to, I think it doesn't matter much.

However, I will add that asking 3 questions might do nothing more than indicate a general interest and not break much ice.
The quickest way to make someone comfortable with you is to give them things to relate to. Either something you notice about them or something anyone can relate to:
-how that weather is changing the lighting for the pictures of flowers you're taking;
-why you appreciate that mutual friend you mentionned;
-that you haven't often visited the city of the munch;
-you've been told they like to take pictures; you mention you have photographs of sliced fruit.

You can make short statements about yourself in between asking questions as long as you're not bragging.

If this doesn't help, it is because I suck at explaining things.
Explaining things is the bane of my existence.
Which is ironic because I'm usually good at understanding things.
