Sort of.

Underneath a current Drudge banner proclaiming that Dove has accepted its dhimmitude (called off the Koran burning) is a smaller banner for a link to a story containing the following;

"'WBC burned the Koran once – and if you sissy brats of Doomed america bully Terry Jones and the Dove World Outreach Center until they change their plans to burn that blasphemous tripe called the Koran, then WBC will burn it (again), to clearly show you some things,' the church announced in a news release this week."

I do get tired of the (threats of) violence (about this and the WTC Victory Mosque and the cartoons and the and the and the), so there is a sense in which I am always glad to see someone stand up to the Muslim bully-boys.

They should have started making books out of asbestos then we could have avoided all this.

I'm treating this as a test: if it rains that day I'll have to reconsider the existence of god although it could be argued god will permit us to burn inanimate objects as you can't burn truth, faith, amen etc.

Seen that film "The book of Eli"? Well someone will always think this stuff important enough to keep in their head.

ALSO just to add t the stupidity of weirdo  religious nuts

just as the news about the cancellation is oozing thru the networks, another "religious chap" in tennessee thinks jones has the right idea
."Old plans to set fire to a Quran on Saturday at his home and then post a video of the burning book online. And if he had his way, there would be no Muslims in America.
"If they want to have their religion, they can have it somewhere else," said Old, former pastor of First Baptist Church in Joelton and Academy Heights Baptist Church in Gallatin, which merged with another church.
He no longer has a congregation and instead runs an evangelical ministry called Disciples of Christ. He believes America was founded as a Christian nation, and freedom of religion does not apply to Muslims or other non-Christians.
"I believe that other religions are a threat to our faith and our beliefs," he said. "People may say that I am crazy, but I am not.

You can get an edition of Farenheit 451 bound in asbestos: it was done as a promotional thing when the novel was first published. Goes for a small fortune now, apparently.

You'll need expert health and safety advise every time you move it off the bookshelf to read, then someday it's have to be decommissioned...

Yep. I think part of the reason that version goes for so much is it needs its own airtight bookcase.
(I'm not sure how long it was before anybody tumbled that asbestos was a health hazard. Obviously after they stuck out this novelty edition...)

Tests in the US found asbestos to be unsafe in the 1930s. Financial concerns squashed the report. I came across that little gem when my mother sued a company over my fathers death from Mesothelioma.

I don't see the problem as being simply the fact that somebody somewhere took it into his head to burn copies of the Qur'an. There are a million stories in the big city. Pffft, just another nut. In my view, the problem was created when the media decided to put it on a nice big platter and shove it under the noses of the entire fucking Muslim world, by ginning it up into an embarrassing national controvery for no better reason than the viewer counts and advertising revenues it would generate.

K.

In 67 AD, Pliny the Elder noted that slaves who wove asbestos cloth tended to die of lung disease at an early age.

In which case, the Egyptians had probably noticed that a few centuries before the Greeks got wind of the notion.

I saw this coming yesterday with a coupla posts. Waybe I can take ofer Johnny Carson's old "Carnac" gig?

Seriously, though, WBC is nuttier than squirrel poop.

They, too, have been known to wimp out. They were going to protest a soldier's funeral about 20 miles from here last summer and when several thousand red, white and blue clad pissed off rednecks showed up, they kinda faded off into the sunset. Checked out of their motel and headed west.

The preacher is a disbarred lawyer (for stealing from clients I think but feel free to confirm that)

The preacher of "The dovies" was asked to leave his last church for (you guessed it) stealing from the congregation.

Burning someone's holy book as a means of striking a blow against them.  Almost as macho as renaming French Fries to Freedom Fries.

Ok, so we send a letter to Freddy boy and tell him that is a great idea and we have a field set aside somewhere for his big book burning. Then we have to find some muslim extremists and tell them that Fred going to be burning the books, but we can't seem to stop him. Here is the address to the field he will be at.

The muslims see the rest of us as being good because we helped them stop Freddy and we don't have to put up with WBC anymore. Seems like a win-win to me

My view is the biggest threat to the Christian religion is for Christian's to simply read the Bible.

It'd be nice if people who've only read a few bits of the old testament could be stopped from calling themselves Christians in the first place, frankly.

"Actually one wonders whether any such overt action of an infidel is any more sacrilegious than the existence of the infidel who has not submitted to Islam nor submitted to dhimmitude by paying tribute." ~ Jerry Pournelle (On Wednesday, I think)

I think that he makes a good point.

I wish everyone else would stop calling that man a christian.

Do you call someone a vegan after finding out they have scarfed down cheeseburgers everyday for the past year?
