Trump offers to buy out investor in NY mosque site
NEW YORK — Donald Trump is offering to buy out one of the major investors in the real estate partnership that controls the site near ground zero where a Muslim group wants to build a 13-story Islamic center and mosque.
Trump also attached a condition to his offer: He said that as part of the deal, the backers of the mosque project would need to promise that any new mosque they constructed would be at least five blocks farther away from the World Trade Center site.

There are currently 100 mosques in New York. There was one reason and one reason only to pick that location. It will not be built there and shouldn't be built there.

The Trump offer was rejected, by the way.

Folks, these guys have been there since 1970.  There's another mosque 10 blocks away that's been there since the mid-80s.  Just how far is far enough?

It's not a Mosque.

People enjoy fear. It gives them boundaries. What can I say? I am no fan of ANY religious building, believing that most of religion is patriarchical BS, but given the laws of the land and the U.S. Constitution, anyone protesting this community center/mosque has no ground on which to stand in the United States of America. I am very proud of our Constitution and consider it the greatest governing document ever written. If only the rest of America felt the same...

Also, Trump has the worst hair EVER, so we should oppose any plan of his on principle.

Let's face it, the religious nutters that started it all have done their job, their self sacrifice and murder has achieved a result, America is scared shitless of Muslims.

Now what comes, because of the dreaded 'M' word, you fight against your own citizens, for those that America's most vociferous see a belief before a person, you seek to inhibit your own, which as far as many of the 'M' word belief overseas might be seen as a relief from the American eye under whatever disguise focusing it's beady glare on them. If things continue, perhaps those overseas might see America destroying itself from within, American citizen beating American citizen, aye the religion might be a brotherly or sisterly thing, but that is it in terms of nationality. But there are always foreigners who seek to shove their noses into other country's affairs, America should know this, help may come for the underdog as America also knows how to use that tactic well.

America like Britain, France and wherever is now starting to reap the seeds it has in the past sown. No cheer for those not involved, the majority who reside under a flag, but as always, the cause has long gone, made their wealth and disappeared into the ether only to wait until other's sorrow and pains give the parasite scum license to rape again.

Yeah the sufi imam who started holding service there 30 years ago could predict the future and knew that sunni extremists were going to act 20 years after he started. Of course it remains unclear why the psychic sufi imam wants to glorify an action by a group of sunni's considering that the two groups mutually detest each other and consider the other apostate.

They've been holding prayers right nearby since the 1970s. Muslim services are held in the frickin' Pentagon chapel.  How is that a less "holy" site than the WTC?

Yeah, a real estate developer bought a building that had been vacant for years, was first planning on putting in Condos, was approached by another Muslim who suggested a cultural center.

The reason to build there, simple, no one else wanted the old building. Of course, that probably means nothing to you, but what the hell.

Tell that to the developer and Rauf, both who consistently refer to it as a mosque.

thornhappy -> RE: seven blocks far enough away? (9/11/2010 11:04:43 AM)

It's directly comparable to a JCC.  It can hold services, but the main function is as a community center.

Besides, if they can have services in the Pentagon, why can't these guys be 2 blocks away from the WTC?

They can.
