Just because she was singing to herself in the operating room.   So this is why we can not trust those in position of authority.    The sheriff did not even have the records!  WOW!    Shouldnt these be rfid pills?

Nurses should not be allowed to fuck the patients, should they?

Pa, nurses aren't allowed, which is the reason behind that article. If she had been a physician, they would have protected her completely. The American Nursing Association does not hide abusers.

And it wasnt JUST because she was singing in the OR. Re-read your article.

According to court documents, In October 2009 Haugh, while working as an anesthetist in the hospital operating room was seen singing and talking to herself, was unable to remain still, had pinpoint eye pupils and tried to hide from co-workers.

The charges state that Haugh was immediately removed from the operating room and asked to take a drug test, which she declined.

Corbett said that a sealed syringe, a full and sealed vial of Diprivan (Propofol) and a full and sealed vial of Flumazenil (Romazicon) were found in Haugh's employee locker.

Agents found that between August 2009 and Oct. 1, 2009 12 out of 21 patient records had discrepancies in Fentanyl administration during their procedures

There is a whole list of complaints. Nurses are subject to drug tests for cause in most places. Her refusal can be grounds for termination in itself.

The medicines she diverted are IV medications. She wasn't stealing them from patients, she was diverting them from the pharmacy for her own use.

Having said that... I have 2 friends who lost there nursing licenses for drug diversion. They did take narcotics that they documented they gave the patient, but took themselves. Drug abuse/addiction is more common in the medical profession than most people realize. It's very sad, on so many levels.

pa,. what is your point?

In your same cite, they report a receptionist who was caught, allegedly, writing prescriptions.

Is this just a rant against nurses?

Who has too much power? A Nurse anethetist? How is it too much power for someone like that to be able to remove medications, legally, from a hospital pharmacy to give during an operation?

Your not making much sense here, pa.

So... you want the patients to start their own IVs?

First of all..........this really is a push to fit into politics or religioun.

Second of all, just as Mbmbn already stated, this has been a problem since the beginning of time and will ALWAYS be a problem. I know a woman that was busted, for stealing her patients drugs, over 30 years ago. After nearly a year locked up and treatment, she's been clean since.

And lastly PA, people in power??? Talk to most nurses and you will not hear them discussing their power. Most nurses are caring and dedicated individuals doing an amazing job. One I could not do. And NO, if and when I have need for care and med management, I would prefer a professional, a nurse, be dispensing it.

Any medical professional from nurse to doctor to pharmacist to techs can get their hands into the narcotics.

Anyone in the general population can get their hands onto stuff if they want.

You can go to any state board of nursing site and find nurses disciplined and/or suspended and/or revoked licenses for drug use or diversiion.. I am sure the medical and pharmacy boards have the same feature.

I read of a statistic that one in seven drivers has had a DWI. That number and the numbers uncaught makes me worried.

Maybe I should really scare PA and tell him about some of my daughter's experiences with nurse's aides and such!

The system currently has the power to give lifesaving drugs to patients who die without them.  How do you propose to take the system's power away?  let the patients die?
