Thank you.

IMO they have over used the word emergency so much that- it no longer means alarm like it once did.

You actually are not aware that there is a world wide war on terror, with intell agencies desperatly trying to identify and stop attacks before they happen?

Honestly? You are not aware that intell services all over the world are working 24/7?

My interpretation of 'while actually happening' is in the 'hasn't finished falling over yet' sense. It's not something I thought was left running for months or even years. One long non-stop 10 year emergency....it doesn't fit with my understanding of the word.

The struggle with terrorism is much larger than the 2 towers. It is still actually happening. 24/7.

The idea that terrorism was over after the tower finished falling, seems rather bizzare.

Though there is a legal distinction between a 'state of emergency" and a "national emergency".

Pa calls it a 'state of emergency" while the actuall gov does not.

That may be part of your confusion.

Pa bases most of his posting on similar slight of hand tricks.

Didn't not exist beforehand either....like I said, it just really doesn't fit with how the word's used over here.

Why would the word being used here not mean what it means here, as opposed to what it means there?

And its not a word, it's a phrase. 2 phrases actually, which are similar yet distinct.

???

"State of emergency" is not the same as a "national emergency regarding...." as defined by 50 U.S.C. 1622(d).

The link is in Pa's link. If you care to learn.

OMIGOD!!!!!!!!!!  Can I borrow some of your Depends?

Don't Be Terrorized - Reason Magazine

Even if terrorists were able to pull off one attack per year on the scale of the 9/11 atrocity, that would mean your one-year risk would be one in 100,000 and your lifetime risk would be about one in 1300.

In other words, your risk of dying in a plausible terrorist attack is much lower than your risk of dying in a car accident, by walking across the street, by drowning, in a fire, by falling, or by being murdered.

..........However, with risks this low there is no reason for us not to continue to live our lives as though terrorism doesn't matter—because it doesn't really matter. We ultimately vanquish terrorism when we refuse to be terrorized.

It is cute to watch you try to attack me.

My depends? what does that mean, I am so old I shit in my pants? Im only 41.

Are you actually agreeing with PA, that Obama is the evil twin of Bush continuing the "State of Emergency"?

Of course your not. You are just attacking me.

No, what I am attacking are your irrational fears and that was also what the Depends reference was about.

If you bother to read the article you would see there is an immense discontinuity between our fear of terrorism and the statistical probability of being affected by terrorism.

Your hysteria about a 24/7 worldwide war on terrorism only accomplishes the purpose of the terrorists, to spread fear and cause disruption.

what Hysteria?

Pointing out we are NOT in a State of Emergency, as PA fasley claimed in the OP is hardly hysterical.

Pointing out that the Gov is dealing with terrorism 24/7, is not hysterical.

You just have a need to attack the poster not the post.

Which is sad.

If you think about it for a second, I am backing Obama, and saying he is doing the right thing, in the face of a conspiricy thoerist nut claiming he has extended the "State of Emergency" imposed by Bush.

Are you in agreement with me, that Obama is taking prudent and reasonable steps to deal with the threat of terrorism? Or with PA that Bushes 3 rd term is in effect and the "state of Emergency" has been extended by the Evil Obama?

OR someother relevant comment?

Or just attacking me?

But RML, if you left wingers want to run against Obama, and declare he is an evil Neo Con overhyping the threat from terror. And that there is no reason to be concerned about Terrorism.

Please!!

Please Do!!!

Be Very Loud!!!

Make sure every American knows that Left wingers think it wouldn't be that bad if a 911 scale attack happened once a year.

"It doesn't really matter"

Make sure everyone knows what sort of vermin you leftwingers are.

You post 911 doesn't matter on the day. Scum.

Make sure everyone knows you lefties feel that way.

Thank God Obama doesn't!!!

"....For this reason, I have determined that it is necessary to continue in effect after September 14, 2010, the national emergency with respect to the terrorist threat...."

Will this reason ever disappear?  The answer is no. The state of national emergency expands presidential powers. The president loves it, of course. The Congress needs to act and end it. Otherwise, it will last forever.
