I made a pact when I was a lot younger to never have regrets in life....I never wanted to ever wonder about the "what if's".
I can only put in one way julie...if you don't meet and find out what this man is like...you will always wonder about the "WHAT IF" scenario.

Don't be frightened....take the plunge and find out...you never know....he might be the "one"...if not....its just another lesson learned in life.

Good luck to whatever you do decide.

That's actually a very good statement. When I joined CM years ago I refused to meet someone as I did not feel attracted to him and also other aspects of his life appeared to me not to match with mine. These days that somewhat changed and I wished I would have met him....but in respect to him that's too late now as he found his lucky girl by now. So certainly enjoy the ride and get to know him, before it alternatively might be too late to get to know him better one day

Even I sound great on paper....Whatever I write about myself , I am pretty certain that people get an image of me that isn't what I'm really like on a day to day basis.

I'm not distrustful, I'm just realistic for the reason above.

I've been quite happy to meet people but not as *dates*......just as * maybe a nice person to know* type basis. I'm afraid that I could have a hundred emails from someone with all signals flagging but I know that only being around them  will decide whether I actually see what THEY see about themselves.

Steve sounded too good to be true. It was easy for him to research me because I'm known on the UK scene. It was easy for him to talk the talk and say all the right things and I'm sure he did that to an extent.
The day I was supposed to first meet up with him was struck with disaster. One of my horses died and in all the chaos of emotions, I didn't give Steve a second thought. When I eventually remembered that I had forgotten to call our date off, I was of the opinion that it was probably for the best anyway.
He persisted but even when I drove to our first meeting place, I very nearly turned the car round and drove home.
I was not wanting a long term relationship and neither was he but six weeks after meeting him we moved in together and our relationship couldn't be more perfect.

It makes me shudder when I think about very nearly not meeting him.

Sometimes people are too good to be true.  Sometimes it is them, sometimes it is the failure of our preconceived notions regarding them.  All you can do is remain open to the possibility of meeting someone and reacting favorably when the opportunity arises.

I have learned to take things on a case by case basis. Also, as time goes by, my BS detector undergoes modification, and is much improved.  Still a bit faulty on occasion, but not much flies under the radar these days.

I think that if one trusts their instincts, they won't be steered wrong. I personally have to make sure I remember to check my own baggage, to see what it is exactly that might cause me to sabotage a fledgling relationship.
Wishing you all the best in this.

Well, I got this email from a really really handsome guy

He sent me a few long emails, and we have an incredible amount in common.

I just feel so jaded after my last experience, and more than a little distrustful. Has anyone else ever had someone too good to be true contact you... did you go for it, or did you dismiss it because it just seemed unrealistic someone could be that good?

(snipped for pertinent info)

Exactly the same thing happened here.  Just the picture on His profile caused major drooling from both ends. ;)   The list of similar likes and dislikes was enormous, the differences few and just enough to be interesting; outlook for the future the same; experiences of the past very alike; the whole nine yards of "were we separated at birth?" or something like that.   He had everything, absolutely everything, this one was seeking and more that she hadn't thought of.  We met, we talked for about a year and a half, she moved to Him almost 5 months ago.

Yes it's possible.  Heaven knows it's hard to open the door wide enough to at least take a peek, from past experience it brought nothing but trouble.  But sometimes it is worth it.
Good luck to you.

Color me somewhat taken aback.

Seeing a picture of someone caused a bout of anal leakage? Hmm. First, you probably ought to see a doctor about that. It's possible a head doctor.

But to say this in a public forum. Wow, that takes great courage. It 'is' a little impressive once you look at it that way.

Best of luck to you.

Jeff
